The Jewish community
regards the present mili-
tary government as a tern-
porary measure intended to
restore order and prepare
the country for democratic
elections next June.
Although most Jews in
Iran hold valid passports
enabling them to leave the
country at any time, they
are not making use of them,
the informant said.
Meanwhile, as a con-
tingency, the Jewish
Agency and the Israel Ab-
sorption Ministry have
completed detailed plans to
absorb thousands of Iranian
Jews.
Latest . reports
in
Jerusalem say some 5,000
to 8,000 Jews have left Iran
in recent months, although
most of them went to
France. Other Jews who
wanted to leave were de-
layed because they faced
difficulties selling their
property. Only 30 Iranian
Jews emigrated to Israel in
1977 and 1978, but 500
came to Israel during the
last 10 months.
The Jewish Agency
noted a slight rise in im-
migrants during October
— 2,552 compared to
2,193 last October. About
half of the immigrants
came from the USSR, al-
though the dropout rate
was still about 60 per-
cent.
The immigration until
the end of the year is esti-
mated at 25,000, a rise of 21
pefeent. If peace is signed, a
spokesman said, the immi-
gration from the Western
countries will rise as well,
bringing the number of im-
migrants next year to
35,000.

WASHINGTON— A $1.5
million, 8,000 pound statue
of Albert Einstein has been
commissioned by the Na-
tional Academy of Sciences.
Sculptor Robert Berks
said he was so moved by a
visit he once had with Eins-
tein that he sought finan-
cial support for the project
for 25 years.
The statue will show
Einstein sitting on a bench
studying a map of the sky at
