Retarded Focus of PrograM

November is Mental Re-
tardation Month, and the
Macomb and Oakland
County Association for Re-
farded Citizens in union
with the Macomb-Oakland
Regional Center (MORC)
are issuing "A Call to Ac-
tion" to the residents of the
counties.
Three ways the public can
become involved in the lives
of mentally retarded clients
is through MORC's com-
munity training home,
group home and alternative
family residence programs.
Community training
homes are private homes
with one to three mentally
retarded persons.
Group homes are oper-
ated by non-profit agen-
cies and average six
clients.. The alternative
family residence is a new
community living pro-
gram, with four persons
in a private home.
Meanwhile, the MORC

announced the availability
of "special sitters," baby sit-
ters who are trained to care
for retarded citizens. The
sitters are usually volun-
teers from the community.
Volunteers from the
Macomb and Oakland
Counties are always needed
to work in various
capacities in programs for
the retarded.
To volunteer, call the
MORC, 286-8400, or the
Oakland County Associa-
tion for Retarded Citizens,
