ONE OF THE better din-
ing spots of our area is being
discovered by more and
more people . . . to their de-
light ... Bonaventure on
Big Beaver (16 Mile) next to
the Top of Troy Bldg.
Gracious, elegant
Bonaventure presents the
leisurely type of quiet fare
enjoyment that typifies so
much your finer spots in
New York.
Our waiter, Victor Roth,
has few peers . . . he is easily
among the tops in effi-
ciency, know-how, person-
al ity and quickness . . . That
personality of his is the kind
you don't find in too many
service persons ... an abil-
ity to bend according to his
customers.
From the moment we
walked in and were
greeted by pleasant, smil-
ing hostess Linda Klimas,
to evening's end, we had
had more than just an
epicurean experience ...
it was a most enjoyable
adventure.
We left the ordering up to
Vic . . . who started us with
hors d' oeuvres ... Chinese
shrimp, escargots in mush-
room caps and marinated
beef on sticks . . . along with
an excellent sauce.
Hot rolls had been
brought previously.
Few make a better Caesar
salad then maitre d' Manuel
Chavez ... and we watched
with anxious interest at this
true master . . . Manuel
separates the egg, using
only its yolk . . . the an-
chovies and garlic are rub-
bed around the bowl to ooze
into chilled, crisp pieces of
romaine lettuce . . . with oil,
mustard, lemon and cheese
. He uses a plastic bowl
because the Troy Health
Department forbids wooden
ones . . . but it makes very
little difference.
Manuel made his first
Caesar salad 15 years ago at
the Roostertail ... Many
folks remember him from
London Chop House, also
. . . He uses no vinegar in his
Caesar salad . . . it is very
mild and extremely tasty.
Bonaventure is owned by
Costas Kyriokopolous,
Doug Wong and John
Watenabe.
Vic's next choice was a
combination plate of
Mahi Mahi fish, beef ten-
derloin brochettes with
green peppers and wok-
fried Chinese vegetables
like you've seldom if ever
tasted before.
Our dessert was not on
the menu . . . concocted by
Victor . . . French vanilla
ice cream, hot cherry sauce
and whipped cream.
And then Vic's mixture
he calls "The Frenchman"
. . . Grand Marnier and
Courvoisier.
This was the kind of meal
we like . . . no after feeling
of being too full or bloated
.-.. just enough to feel very
satisfied.
Ray King on the piano

ground "lif'e" to dining
pleasure.
The only mess,y thing

about Bonaventure's men's
room were a few sprinkles of
ashes in an ash tray .
cleanliness supreme reigns
throughout.
The quiet brown and
beige tones in table /cloths
and brown napkins reflect
the softness . . . while wait-
ers and waitresses are in red
dinner jackets with dress
shirt and bow tie . . . Even
the busboys are dressed
properly . . . in red jackets
with white lapel trim.
If you like good food and
service amid an atmosphere
of sheer elegance, you'll love
Bonaventure . . . a better
restaurant to be sure!
BEST HAMBURGER
in town, according to insur-
ance gent Harvey Jaslove,
is at Larco's on W.
McNichols.
NO MATTER HOW
busy a waitress may be, she
should never neglect cus-
tomers already being
waited upon by her . . . To
many people, for example, a
second cup of coffee is most
important, and could mean
the difference in their feel-
ings toward enjoying his or
her meal . . . Serivce is all so
important.
Waitresses who can't
serve the public properly
are being unfair to their
boss . . . and should be doing
something else for a living
. . . These, by the way are
usually the ones who
squawk the loudest about
not getting better tips!
MASIE SILK, owner of
the Left Field Delicatessen
on Michigan and Brooklyn,
looks great . . . but a recent
accident wasn't very com-
fortable ... Six gallons of
boiling hot chicken soup
spilled on his front, landing
Max in the hospital.

ing hostess at Eastman's
