The Best of Everything

(Continued from Page 33)
her hand was burning, and
had to be soothed after with
ice, Irene continued on with
her work at our table with-
out anyone else in the place
knowing what had hap-
pened.
Aside from being a good
waitress, Irene had another
fine trait that we liked .. .
taking salad with tongs in-
stead of hands . . . We can't
stand, seeing waitresses
dipping their bare fingers in
chopped lettuce and throw-
ing them into a bowl .. .
This is a very unsanitary
and most unappetizing oc-
curence which, sorry to say,
is quite common.
IN THE DETROIT
Bagel Factory on Woodward
and Square Lake Rd. (NW
corner), there is also a 10-
foot carry-out delicatessen
counter . . . All Detroit
Bagel spots are one stop
brunch places . . . carrying
lox, cream cheese and milk.
AT ONE TIME, WE re-
ceived a letter from a
woman who insisted that
the onions used at many
coney island places are fro-
zen . . . Bearing this in
mind, we visited the kitchen
at Onassis Coney Island on
W. Eight Mile, west of
Evergreen, to see for our-
selves.
The onions are not frozen
or dehydrated . . . all were
freshly chopped . . . there
are no frozen hot dogs at
Onassis ... and the loose
hamburger is fresh.
Another very important
factor there is the oil for
French frying being
changed regularly not
filtered.
Open 24 hours, seven-
days-a-week, Onassis is
very clean and takes great
pride in its chili . . . So much
so that a Football Super
special of a 16 oz. bowl is just
$1.25.

TAKE A TIP . . . The
next time you order a drink
at a place you don't know,
mix it yourself . . . Too many
clips are done behind the
bar . . . You'll probably wind
up getting watered bar
booze instead of the good
stuff you ordered and are
paying for . . . Also, don't be
ashamed to check your tab,
unless you like being clip-
ped that way, too.
