precise details of what Is-

classified information.
Some Israeli political ob-
servers expressed hope that
President Anwar/ Sadat's
overwhelming victory in
Monday's referendum on
dealing with Egypt's
domestic crisis will prompt
him to resume peace talks
with Israel. Israeli officials
are still waiting for Sadat's
reply to Israel's request for
"counter proposals" to the
Begin peace plan on which
negotiations can be based.

Meanwhile, it remained
unclear if and when the
Cabinet will discuss the key
questions posed by the U.S.
for clarification of Israel's
peace plan.

Minister
Foreign
Moshe Dayan disclosed
Wednesday that Egypt
had replied to Israel's
peace proposals, but the
U.S. had rejected the re-
ply, in Dayan's words, as
"inadequate" and "im-
possible."
A State Department
spokesman was "puz-
zled" by Dayan's claim
and denied having sent
any message to Israel as
Dayan reported.
Dayan made the claim
during a Knesset debate
on Wednesday in which
the Likud government
defeated a Labor no-
confidence motion by
66-32 with one absten-
tion.

In the aftermath of the jet
sale, President Carter wrote
to Begin re-affirming
America's continued com-
mitment to the security and
welfare of Israel. The letter
was delivered by U.S. Am-
bassador Samuel Jewish.
The White House denied a
radio report that Carter
aide Hamilton Jordan had
said "the Jewish lobby" had
been broken by the Senate
vote.
Several public demon-
strations were held in
Washington last week to

lasting peace settlement. I
must say that I fail to see
how $5 billion of additional
arms introduced in the
Middle East enhances our
chances for peace.
"I respect the Sadat peace
initiative. I am interested
and sympathetic to the
strategic defense needs of
both Egypt and Saudi
Arabia — now and in the
future. But let no one fail to
understand that the 60
F-15s to Saudi Arabia
marks a profound change in
U.S. policy in the Middle
East.

give Israel the incentive to
take the risks for peace?
Clearly the answer is 'no.' "

France Neo-Nazi Gets Death Threat

PARIS (JTA) — A group
calling itself The Remem-

threatened to kill one of the
leaders of France's minute
neo-Nazi party.
The group, which has al-
ready assumed responsibil-
ity for the murder on March

tary candidate Francois
Duprat, telephoned the

protest the sale. Some 1,200
high school and college stu-
dents from New York
staged a demonstration and
seven rabbis handcuffed
themselves to the White
House fence for 45 minutes.
In Tel Aviv, Philip M.
Klutznick, president of the
World Jewish Congress,
said the plane sale was re-
grettable, "but not a cause
for tears." He said that
President Carter's assur-
ances and the fact that 44
Senators opposed the sale
was encouraging.
