"TO THOSE OF you
who have heard me on
radio, you don't look the
same either" . . . This was
Jimmy Lance warming up
the crowd prior to another
Turgeon-Lance Production,
The Sunshine Boys" at
Somerset Mall.
It is something new for
them . . . with Jimmy com-
ing out giving announce-
ments of birthdays, an-
niversaries, jokes and
humorous-repartee.
We had finally realized
what it was we had against
many dinner theater pre-
sentations . . . Standing in
line like cattle for food and
luke-warm coffee . . . the
show has to be very very
good to make up for the
hearding and close quarters
around chafing dishes that
aren't kept warm and filled.
However, there are
dinner theater instances
where the food is very
secondary . . . In fact,
some people don't even
come to eat . . . The
show's the thing and
Pierre Turgeon and
Jimmy Launce do it best.
Paul Winter as Willie
Clark and Robert Casemore
as Al Lewis give a fine in-
terpretation of what is con-
sidered among the best of
Neil Simon's work . . .
"Sunshine Boys" has some
great lines, and Paul and
Robert take good advantage
of their audience appeal
. . . Roger Hilborn, as
Willie's agent nephew, Ben
Silverman, does his part
well.
If you saw the movie with
George Burns and Walter
Matthau, you know what
kind of laughs are in store
. . . Here's a couple of old
vaudevillians who had
worked together as a com-
edy team for 43 years . . .
They are asked to perform

again . . . together, in a big
TV extravaganza com-
memorating the 50th an-
niversary of theater . . .
They haven't seen, or spo-
ken to each other since the
split 11 years ago.
Al and Willie never liked
each other in all their 43
years together . . But
hatred seethed in Willie
when, one night at the close
of a show, Al announced he
was retiring . . . He walked
off leaving Willie unem-
ployed . . . and Willie
never forgave him . . .
never!
Willie's nephew acts as
liaison in trying to get the
two stubborn old codgers
back together for the one
big performance . . .
They finally agree, after
much bickering . . . and
the ensuing scenes are
sweetly developed to
show a resurgence of all
the old hates surfacing
when the idiosyncrasies
and jealousies of each
come into play.
"Sunshine Boys," which
continues at Somerset Mall
through July 29, is a very
funny play . . . Paul
Winter and Robert Case-
more are at their best.
CARL'S CHOP HOUSE
on Grand River, was natur-
ally jam-packed as always
before a recent Tiger
baseball contest . . . But no
matter how many, the food
always seems to come out
with consistent goodness.
About the service, it is
among the tops anywhere.
One of the waitresses now
working there is Anne Con-
nor, who was formerly a
banquet stalwart at Town &
Country Club . . . It was at
a Detroit Businessmen's
Group, City of Hope, meet-
ing two years ago, while the
men were talking about the
City of Hope introducing
Cobalt, that Anne said she
was a living example of its
success . . . In 1951, when
Providence Hospital re-
ceived the bomb, she had
been given 61/2 years to live
. . . Making every moment
count half-way around the
world and $12,000 later,
Anne took the cobalt treat-
ments and was later told of
being healthier than a horse
and able to return to work.
Sit in Anne's station at
Carl's .. . she's good.
SO NICE . . . about 60
people at surprise party at
Antonio's for Madonna
Grego, mother of George
Grego, owner of Como's
with wife Sicilia on Wood-
ward.
WHAT DO YOU think of
this name for a restaurant
. . . The Bum Steer . .
which is the new monicker
for Alvaro's on 14 Mile and
Crooks . . . Sounds a bit
odd for a place that serves
steaks!
