THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
(Continued from Page 28)
ens of some restaurants
they say are so great . . .
Don't think they'd eat there
anymore.
SUPER WAITER is ex-
cellent Arnie Maasarani at
Antoinette's on Telegraph,
south of Joy . . . Very po-
lite, smiling and extremely
efficient . . . Arnie adds
much to the enjoyment of a
good meal and evening.
NOW OPEN, but under a
remodeling program that
will hit for a June 6 re-
grand opening, is Jimmy's
At The Inn restaurant and
lounge in the Holiday Inn of
Farmington on Grand River
and 10 Mile.
Seating will expand to
250 and a Victorian setting
with stained glass windows
througout . . Already, the
bar counter' gives a warm
glow with the colorful glass
top . . . and very pleasant,
smiling daytime barmaid,
Marge Jackson.
Bossman Jim Hamilton
is enthused about the
"new look" .. . plus five
rooms of catering that
can be made into one hall
for a 350-person total or
split up whichever way is
needed . . . Also, says
Jim, in about a year,
super plans include 110
rooms being added to
Holiday Inn . . . plus a
Holidome enclosed rec-
reational center with
snack bar, lounge, trees,
swimming pool, cabanas,
terrace arrangement, etc.
Phil Rongo, food and bev-
erage director, is excited
about the new menu Jim-
my's will have . . . over-
sized portions, like 20 oz.
prime rib or 16 oz. steak, at
regular prices . . . 10 oz.
white fish will be $7.95. . .
and nothing on the menu
will be more than $11.95.
There'll be dancing, too as ,
of June 6 at Jimmy's . .
with tunes by Harmony
Sweet (former Rocky Road
group.)
WANT SOME very good
tasting non-fattening
cheese? . . . Find out where
Samsoe is sold.
MARGARET TURNER
works in the kitchen at
Northgate Delicatessen,
Greenfield and 10 Mile, but
comes out to help . . . She
can do anything .. . Mar-
garet can take about 10 or-
ders at one time without
writing anything down . . .
incredible! . . . She worked
for Sammy Lieberman at
the Avalon on Linwood and
on Coolidge in–Oak Park,
before Dick Lichtman and
Dave Raben.
DAVID BRENNER
opened the Birmingham
Theater to live entertain-
ment for the first time since
1927 . . . and the packed
opening night was treated
to a full evening of much
entertainment . . . Even
Bill Bonds of WXYZ-TV
was on stage doing a weak
impression of Jack Benny
. . . but then again, he is a
fine newscaster, not a stage
entertainer.
.David was his usual very
fast and humorous self.
The audience was given
an added treat with what
was to be a warmup for
David . . . but turned out as
a sensational pre-attraction
. Few had heard about
Edna Lev, recording artist,
night club and concert per-
former, who sometimes ste-
als the show when she ap-
pears with Brenner .
But as Edna says with a
laugh, "That's before David
gets on stage."
A first generation Is-
raeli, she is the most
popular singer and lead-
ing record seller in Israel,
having more number one
records and more total
record and album sales
than any other Israeli
. . . Her vocal range of
two and a half octaves
beginning at the low A
tone is unique for a
female singer.
Edna extended her career
to Europe and immediately
had several number one re-
cord hits . . . singing in
seven different languages
and recording each coun-
try's music• in their own
language.
She served in the Israeli
Army and this stylish,
statuesque brunette is a
combat veteran of the 1973
Yom Kippur War . . . Fol-
lowing the war, Edna went
on an extensive singing tour
of all the hospitals
entertaining the wounded.
After starring in an Is-
raeli film "Gift From
Heaven," Edna successfully
completed a long tour of
European cabarets and
American nightclubs and
concert halls, which led to
her present singing career
with David Brenner.
About the Birmingham
Theater itself, the reno-
vation is amazing . . .
Quite a difference from
