Tekoah Speaks at Parlor

Actress Molly Picon Is Superb in 'Second Time Around'

By DREW LIEBERWITZ
The auditorium was full
of anticipation and excite-
ment for what was to come
— Molly Picon — and it was
all warranted. At 80 years
she is still as quick and agile
as when she started 75
years ago, as she performs
in "The Second Time
Around" at the Music Hall.
The other parts were
played very well, especially
Samuel Jonas (played by
A.D. Cover), the widower.
The "widow", Molly Picon,
is superb down to the wrink-
led nose pointed at her fu-
ture daughter-in-law.
The play evolves around
the old couple wanting to
live together but not want-
ing to get married because
of small social security
payments.

Throughout the play
Molly is superb with her
quick lines, facial ex-
pressions and general vital-
ity.
The play was very
entertaining, but the high-
light of the evening was a
20 - minute monologue fol-
lowing the play by the won-
derfully gracious and funny
Molly Picon.
In that 20 minutes she did
a medley of tunes, including
"Old Man River" with a
Yiddish accent.
She told several poetic

stories, including a number on the stage she never
from Israel, and in 75 years looked better.

The plan to "live in sin" is
the setting and the length of
the first scene is forgotten
when Molly Picon comes on
stage.
In scene two, the whole
cast appears in a gripe ses-
sion at the father's apart-
ment.

By the third act, everyone
seems to have come to grips
with the situation. Cynthia
and her husband, Dr. Ar-
thur Morse (J. Robert Di-
etz), a neurotic analyst who
by now is in a catatonic
state, are going to split with
Molly's son the difference
that the couple will lose in
social security payments
and are ready to give them
their blessing for marriage.
The couple accepts the
blessing but refuses the
money.
