Hillel Conference Due Here

The first inter-city Hillel
conference held in the De-
troit area will take place
April 14-16. Students from
the University of Cincin-
nati, Michigan State Uni-
versity, Wayne State Uni-
versity, Oakland Univer-
sity and Oakland Commun-
ity College will participate
in a weekend of relaxation,
study, worship and ac-
tivities.
The conference, entitled
"Prelude to Passover," will
focus on the various free-
dom motifs of Passover.
Students will compile their
own Passover anthology
(compiled after Shabat)
which will summarize their
thoughts and reflections on
Passover derived from the
workshops and lectures of
the conference.
Coordinating the confer-
ence will be the Hillel direc-
tors, staff and students of
the participating schools.
Included are _Rabbi Ab-
raham Inger, Hillel director
of the University of Cincin-
nati; Rabbi Daniel Allen,
Hillel director of Michigan
State University; and Rabbi
Howard Addison and Mar-
cia Wagner, director and as-
sistant director, respec-
tively, of Hillel of Met-
ropolitan Detroit.
The conference will
begin with Shabat ser-
vices 7 p.m. April 14
under the stars in the

Hillel House back yard,
weather permitting. Ser-
vices will be followed by
Shabat dinner at Temple
Emanu-El. The evening
program features a val-
ues clarification exercise
on Passover, utilizing
group dynamics
methods, led by Rabbi
Ingber. Culminating the
evening will be zmirot
and dancing.
At 9:30 a.m. April 15 at
Hillel House students will
have the option of attending
two minyanim, an Orthodox
service, or an elalitarian
(equal participation by men
and women) or they may opt
for a morning of Torah
study.

Men'sClubs

BETH ACHIM Men's
Club will host a disco party
8:30 p.m. Saturday in the
synagogue. Dance instruc-
tion will be available. Re-
freshments will be served.

University of Michigan in
Ann Arbor.
The five-day seminar,
part of an AJCommittee
program involving Bran-
deis University and the
University of California at
Berkeley, will feature Dr.
Samuel Sandmel, distin-
gusihed service professor of
Bible and Hellenistic litera-
ture at Hebrew Union Col-
lege, as resident scholar. He
will focus on "The Hebrew
Scriptures as a Work of Lit-
erature. "
Fee for the seminar in-
cludes tuition, housing, lib-
rary privileges, use of re-
creation facilities. Meals
are extra and may be taken
at the union or at nearby re-

Shabat luncheon will be
served at Cong. Bnai
Moshe, prepared with the
help of the Bnai Moshe Sis-
terhood. Following lunch,
Rabbi Max Kapustin, the
keynote speaker, will speak
on "The Methodology of
Compiling a Haggada." A
series of workshops on the
traditional commentaries,
modern renditions of the
Haggada, and the historical
development of the Hag-
gada, will follow, led by the
Hillel staff.
The program will resume
at 8:15 p.m. April 15 at
Hillel House, where stu-
dents will meet for a road
rally. through metropolitan
Detroit. From 10 to 11 p.m.
the 10 Mile Jewish Center
gym will be the scene of a
student and staff volleyball
game. The evening will
culminate at Hillel House
at 11 with a social program
and refreshments.

served 9 a.m. April 16 at
Hillel House and stu-
dents will meet shortly to
collect their anthologies
on Passover.
The conference is spon-
sored by Mr. and Mrs. Irv-
ing Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph

Council of Metropolitan De-
troit.
