for German Friend
JERUSALEM—A

of trees was dedicated re-
cently in memory of the
German philosopher and
staunch friend of Israel,
Heinz Joachim Heydorn,
who deserted from the Ger-

War II in protest against the
Nazi regime.
Heydorn returned to Ger-
many after the fall of the
Third Reich and organized
the Students' Socialist So-
ciety while serving in the
Hamburg Parliament as a
member of the Socialist
Party. When other Social-
ists turned away from Is-

Heydorn remained a loyal
friend, visiting Israel in 1969
as guest lecturer at the He-
brew University in Jerusa-
lem.
