this unusual recipe from Is-
rael.

the 10th anniversary of the
founding of the Reconstruc-
tionist Rabbinical College,
Prof. Emil Fackenheim of
the University of Toronto
affirmed that, since the
Six cups shredded cabbage
1 1/2 tsps. salt
4 tbsps. butter
1/2 tbsp. lemon juice
2 tbsps. sugar
1 egg
1 cup sour cream
Cook cabbage in butter over
low heat for 45 minutes, stirring
often. Stir in lemon juice, salt
and sugar. Cook five more min-
utes. In a separate dish beat
together egg and sour cream.
Add to cabbage mixture, stir-
ring until it begins to thicken.
Cook for a few minutes. Serves
4-6.
JNF Women's History Recalled
as Women Plan 48th Donor
The Women of Jewish Na-
tional Fund, who are plan-
ning their 48th annual donor
event Jan. 10 at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, have a his-
tory which goes back more
than 50 years.
On Jan. 15, 1923, 18 wom-
en met at the home of the
late Rev. H. Milkovsky to
establish a women's aux-
iliary of the Hashachar
Camp, No. 116, Order Sons
Of Zion, for united effort in
the upbuilding of Palestine
as a national Jewish home
and especially to aid in the
work of the Jewish National
Fund.
The charter officers of the
organization were: Mrs.
Milkovsky, president; Mrs.
S. Cabot and N. Meisel, vice
presidents; Mrs. Zemon,
treasurer ; Mrs. William
Fellner, financial secre-
tary; Mrs. Max Weksler,
recording secretary; and
Mesdames L. Rycus, Joseph
Zeff and N. Lerman,
trustees.
In 1927 the name of the
group was changed to that
of the Ladies Auxiliary of
the Jewish National Fund,
and concentrated all its ef-
forts for JNF. Mrs. Milk-
ovsky was president until
1929, Mrs. Max Hayman suc-
ceeded her and served in
1929-1931. In 1931 Mrs. Milk-
ovsky resumed office again
and served for several
years. It was under Mrs.
IVfilkovsky's presidency that
the annual donor event was
started.
Other early presidents of
the Ladies Auxiliary of JNF
were: Mrs. Samuel N. Hey-
man, 1937-38; Mrs. Harry
Buchman, 1938-40; Mrs.
Julius Naiman, 1940-41;
Mrs. Philip Cutler, 1943-45;
Mrs. Irving Shevin, 1945-47;
Mrs. Jack Rosenthal, 1947-
49; Mrs. Albert Prag, 1949-
52; Mrs. Ida Shevin, 1952-53;
Mrs. Jules Kraft, 1953-54;
Mrs. Sidney Ravin, 1954-57;
Mrs. Max Stollman, 1957-59;
Mrs. George Lerner, 1959-
61.
Later presidents included
Mrs. Edward Wishnetsky,
1961-63; 'Mrs. Morris Ku-
tinsky, 1963-65; Mrs. Pearl
Nosan, 1965-67; Mrs. Wil-
liam Levin, 1967-69; Mrs.
Albert Posen, 1969-71; Mrs.
Frank Silverman, 1971-73;
Mrs. Jules Kraft, 1973-75;
and the current president,
Mrs. Louis Levine who took

of Jewish National Fund.
Only $600 was raised at the
first donor event, held in
1930, according to Mrs. Phil-
ip Slomovitz, a pioneer lead-
er in the JNF Women's Aux-
ilary. "We thought we had
done a remarkable job, -
she said.
More than $2,250,000 has
been raised by the JNF
Women's donor events al-
one. Their goal this year is
to complete the $250,000
Youth Camp located in the
American Bicentennial Na-
tional Park In the Judean
Hills in a biblical area
southwest of Jerusalem.
Last year more than
$100,000 was raised to start
the camp.

chairman and Shirley Kraft
is program chairman.

Shabat, New Year
The Fresh Air Society will
hold its first New Year's
Eve Family Camping Week-
end for families with chil-
dren 10 years old and young-
er Dec. 30-Jan. 1 at the But-
zel Conference Center.
Shabat and winter outdoor
activities are scheduled as
well as a special New
Year's Eve party. This is
the eighth in a series of
Shabat weekends designed
for the whole family. There
is a fee, and interested fam-
ilies may call the Fresh Air
