Syria Violates
Disengagement
'1.EL AVIV (JTA)—Israel
has lodged a complaint with
the United Nations Dis-
engagement Observer
Force (UNDOF) about what
it considers the worst Syr-
ian violation since the dis-
engagement agreement on
the Golan Heights was sign-
ed in 1974.
The Israel complaint
charges that Syria has
moved two artillery regi-
ments with heavy 130 mm
guns into the limited forces
zone that runs some 10 to 20
kilometers east of the truce
line. The guns have a range
of 32 kilometers although
the Syrians under the agree-
ment are to have guns with
a range of no more than 20
kilometers in this zone.
An UNDOF inspection has
failed to confirm the two
regiments, but it has con-
firmed the placement of the
130 mm guns.
Schlussel Re-Elected JNF Leader
Attorney Mark E. Schlus-
sel was unanimously re-
elected to a third term as
president of the Jewish Na-
tional Fund Council of Met-
ropolitan Detroit, at its an-
nual meeting. His late
father, Irving, also an at-
torney, was president of
JNF some 25 years ago.
Also elected unanimously
were: Vice Presidents,

Isaacs, Mrs. William Levin,
Mrs. Louis Levine, presi-
dent of Women of JNF;
Carmi Slomovitz; Rissa
Winkelman, president of
Young Women of JNF;
treasurer, Samuel J. Wil-
son; and financial secre-
tary, Larry I. Guttenberg,
who was chairman of the
nominating committee.
Elected to the exectuive
and administrative com-
mittee were : Harold Berry,
Marvin Daitch, David M.
Gubow, David B. Holtzman,
Harry Silverman, Judge Mi-
chael L. Stacey, Jack W.
Belkin, Morris J. Brand-
wine, Seymour Frank, Mrs.
Jules Kraft, Dr. and Mrs.

A. Irving Schnipper, Mrs.

Phillip Stollman. Dr. Israel
Wiener and David P. Zack.
A highlight of the meet-
ing, which heralded the be-
ginning of the 60th anniver-
sary of the founding of
Detroit JNF, was a review
of significant events by
Philip Slomovitz, who was a
founder of JNF in Detroit in
1918, and served as the first
president.
Schlussel, in his greetings,
cited a significant change in
the growth, development
and direction of JNF. He
credited the new leadership
of Moshe Rivlin as world
bead, Dr. Samuel I. Cohen
as executive vice president
in America and of Rabbi
William Berkowitz, the new
national president, with cre-
ating new impetus of JNF
on Israel.
Percy Kaplan, executive
director of the Greater De-
troit and Michigan JNF, re-
ported that Detroiters plan-
ted more than 100,000 trees
in Israel this past year, 15
percent by non-Jews.
Betty Silverman, repre-
senting the Women of JNF,
on behalf of Diane Levine,
president, who was unable
to attend, reported that the
women will hold their 48th
donor event, on Jan. 10 and
Park in Israel. Abe Dishell,
chairman of the JNF Land-
smanshaften Committee, re-
ported on landsmanshaften
activities. Samuel J. Wilson
reported that the income of
JNF here had risen during
the past year.
Guttenberg announced
that he was honoring his
-wife, Dorothy, with the
planting of a garden of 100
trees on the occasion of her-
birthday.
