LISTENING
POST

THE STRONG BOND that

existed between Charles
Ross and his great-grand-
father, David Barron, was
one of much love and re-
spect. . . Until Barron
passed on four years ago,
Charles, from age four to
nine, knew it was his weekly
responsibility to assist
great-grandfather in doing
his weekly grocery shop-
ping. . .Charles would guide
him up and down the aisles,
helping him find items. . .
When they returned to Mr.
Barron's apartment,
Charles would help put the
groceries away.
Tomorrow morning,
Charles Ross, son of Arlene
and Milton Ross, will be
called to the Torah for his
Bar Mitzva at Cong. Beth
Shalom. . . wearing the talis
his great-grandfather left to
him.
NIGHT AFTER Thanks-
giving, Linda and Allen Is-
kow dined at Lelli's with
Mike and Carol Salzens-
tein. .Allen, who was cele-
brating his 28th birthday,
recognized the gent at a
next table and introduced
himself to W. Michael Blu-
menthal, U.S. Secretary of
the Treasury. . . After chat-
ting a bit, both noted that
they had each worked and
left the Bendix
Corp. . . . Allen as data
processing manager for a
subsidiary. . . and Blumen-
thal a bit higher post. . .
chairman of the board.
BIRTHDAY CON-
GATS. . . to Moe Mill-
er.. .to Dennis Silber. . . to
Judge Ira Kaufman. . to
Dave Desow. . . to Murray
Weintraub. . . to Al Lee.
WAS REUNION TIME re-
cently for the Woolf fam-
ily.. .with sisters Margo Co-
hen and Bunny Nichamin,
their cousin Bonnie Stei-
ngold, and dad Sammy
Woolf. . . All were guest
teachers and performers for
an evening of ballroom
dance planned as part of the
overall dance activities by
director Harriet Berg. . . in
a dance residency program
at Borman Hall, Jewish
Home for the Aged.
Not only did the four have
the old-timers on their feet
dancing, but they included a
sing-along of oldies (Margo,
Bunny and Bonnie used to
sing together as children
with Sammy's orchestra).
The program closed with
a 90-year-old resident pull-
ing out a piece of paper
from her purse with the
song title, "Feelings" writ-
ten on it. . .which is some-
thing the Jewish Home for
the Aged folks still have a
lot of... and need to share.
THIS YEAR'S party by
Lt. Eli Levin Post and Aux-
iliary of Jewish War Veter-
ans, for the patients at Allen
Park Veteran's Adminis-
tration Hospital, will be in

-

memory of past president
Sol Hoberman, who recently
passed away. . . Ed Hoff-
man, hospital chairman, is
in charge of the gift-giving
affair.
QUITE A HANUKA gift
from dad, George Cowen, to
daughters, Davida, 10, and
Jill, 13. . . a complete shop-
ping spree to teach them the
charity of helping others
less fortunate.
The two youngsters
bought about 300 toys and
games. . . Marilyn Mittle-
man, president of Tzedakah
Chapter, Bnai Brith Chapter
for working women, ar-
ranged for pickup and deliv-
ery. . . plus contacting the
co-operative council of the
League of Jewish Women's
Organizations.
Sheila Ordin, Lillian Katz
and Eve Gordon of the
League council sorted and
packed the gifts at Sheila's
home.
Can't think of a better
present Davida and Jill
could have gotten for Ha-
nuka.
NOT LONG AGO, while
recuperating from a linger-
ing bout with pneumonia,
six-year-old Nancy Brooks
decided she had been
cooped up long enough. . .
"Mother, she said, "since I
am feeling great, can I have
some friends over to play
. with me?" Not agreeing
with her daughter's health
evaluation, mother Sara
Brooks said, "Since you're
still coughing, you wouldn't
want to give someone you
like your illness". . . After a
moment's hesitation, Nancy
answered, "No, so lets in-
vite someone over I don't
like."
MUSICAL FAMILY tradi-
tion goes on when Cong.
Bnai David Men's Club
holds its Hanuka dance to-
morrow night. . .Danny
Venice with his own orches-
tra takes over for dad
Frank. . . Harry Newman is
president.

Egypt Removes
Troops in Sinai

TEL AVIV (JTA)—Egyp-
tian President Anwar Sa-
dat's peace initiative has
led to the withdrawal of
excess Egyptian troops in
the Sinai.
The Egyptians now have
eight battalions in accord-
ance with the interim Sinai
agreement.
Israel claimed that Egypt
had an excess of 8,000 men
while the UN reported that
the excess amounted to
2,000n. However, the lat-
est inspection showed that
the Egyptians now have re-
duced the troops to the
exact number agreed upon
in the accord.

That is poor help that helps
me from the feather bed to the
straw.

BRUSSELS (JTA)—Is-
raeli-Egyptian cooperation
reached new heights when
an Israeli doctor delivered
an Egyptian baby aboard a
Belgian Sabena Boeing over
the North Atlantic.
The woman gave birth on
the floor of the plane before
landing at Brussels Airport
The mother, a Cairo resi-
dent, named the boy, Jim-
my, in honor of President
Carter's efforts for peace.
