Dr. Leo Schafler, British Zionist, 87

LONDON (JTA)—Dr. Leo
Schafler, former deputy
general secretary of the
Zionist Federation of Great
Britain, died recently at age
87.
Born in Czernowitz, he
was a pioneer of the Labor
Zionist movement in Buko-
vina, then part of the
Austro-Hungarian empire.
After World War I, he was a
lawyer in Vienna until flee-
ing to England in 1938.
He joined the Zionist Fed-
eration in 1940 and was

Ida Weiss, an active

at age 72.

can ORT, Zedakat. Club and
Hadassah. She was active in
efforts on behalf of Jewish
causes. A woodland in
Israel bears her name and
that of her husband. She
resided at 29222 Lancaster
Dr., Southfield.
Mrs. Weiss leaves her
husband, Eugene F. ; a son,
Ernest; a daughter, Mrs.
Hyman (Rose) Weiner; four
sisters, Mrs. Sam (Bessie)
Gold, Mrs. Reuben (Yetta)
Dubrinsky, Mrs. Jack
(Ruth) Weinberger and
Mrs. Morris (Jean) Som-
berg of California; and
seven grandchildren.

William Auster, co-owner

life in Detroit. For the past
three years, the business
was located in Oak Park.
Mr. Auster, who resided
