LISTENING
POST

DEBBY SHORR is follow-

Ie

cr,

ing in her dad, Mickey
Shorr's footsteps... due to
graduate Specs Howard
School of Broadcasting...
and working part time at
the WNIC news room...
Debby's instructor, Nick
Kernan, used to be the pro-
ducer of Mickey's top-rated
disc jockey show at WXYZ
years ago and says she will
be easy to place... which
makes parents May and
Mickey mighty proud of
her.
DON'T KNOW why the
senior citizens' request for a
sidewalk at many parts of
Greenfield south of the Lin-
coln Center are ignored...
Either the building owners
don't realize how very dan-
gerous those little stones
and rocks can be — espe-
cially with winter coming —
or they don't care... So
many folks have written
about this situation and it is
far more important than
some of the junk that many
politicians go out of their
way for... Whoever cham-
pions this cause will be
doing a marvelous service.
MILES FLEISCHER, son
of Rhoda and Henry Fleis-
cher, has been accepted as
a graduate student in phys-
ical chemistry at the Weiz-
mann Institute of Science in
Rehovot, Israel... He
received his bachelor's
degree last year from Uni-
versity of Michigan... Miles
spent eight months of 1972-
73 in Israel... two arch-
eological digs and at Kibutz
Kfar Blum.
GET WELL WISHES... to
Sol Drapkin... at Providence
Hospital.

AN ANTIQUE VASE,

handed down in the family
through many years, is the
cherished possession of
Marion Stone... When Mar-
ion and Sam moved to
another locale, the express-
man was told by her that it
was 120-years-old and to be
careful in handling it...
"Don't you worry ma'am,"
the man assured her, "I'll
be as careful as if it were
brand new!"
DISA 'N DATA... Moe and
Tillie Brandwine to cele-
brate their anniversary this
month in Hawaii... Service
station like Morrie's Sunoco
on Southfield and 10 Mile is
what the name implies—a
service station—much to
owner Morrie Schwartz's
credit. exactly what it
should be instead of just any
old gas pumper... Barbara
and Howard Leshman with
a six-foot screen at home
for the Muhammed Ali-
Ernie Shaver fight... Ryan
and Sabra, English setter
and dalmation owned by
Barbara and Jody Weiner a
couple of beauties—Ryan
doesn't like mustaches and

Sabra couldn't care less...
Frances and Bob Katz a
devoted couple.

FORMER BOXING
CHAMP Joe Louis, who

many say would have made
mince meat out of
Muhammed Ali if today's
champ was around during
Joe's prime, is coming to
Detroit with Sid Hudson,
Oct. 14, to attend both the
Dinner Businessmen's
Group Dinner-Dance, Oct.
16, at Michigan Inn and the
Sid Hudson Testimonial by
City of Detroit, two days
later at Larco's.
Joe also will be accom-
panied here by his wife
Martha... He and Sid have
been close friends about 40
years... before either of
them went to Las Vegas to
live years back.
About the Detroit Busi-
nessmen's Group affair, it is
by invitation only... but by
no means a closed shindig...
If you want an invitation to
the black tie glamorous
event; call the City of Hope
office here at 569-4422 or
569-6262.
We understand Clive
Baldwin, who will put on
"An Evening With Al Jol-
son," is little short of sensa-
tional... He's from England,
which accounts for not too
many people hearing about
him, but according to those
who have seen and heard
him, he is a Jolson sound-
alike both on stage and off.
MUST BE THE don't-
give-a-darn time... past
office and bank windows
closing to let just one or two
handle the heavy waiting
lines... Post offices are most
guilty of this terrible dis-
ervice to citizenry who wait
in line so long... Their civil
service protection evidently
lets them get away with
almost whatever they want.

NOSTALGIA DANCE

time is here again for the
Mr. and Mrs. Group, City of
Hope..: . at its Third Annual
Dance, Oct. 22, at Bnai
David... Dancing togeth-
erness to Frank Venice's
music of the 50's and 60's...
Call Harry Hoffman, 548-
6600, for tickets.
THE ONLY TIME A
pedestrian has the right of
way is in an ambulance to
the hospital.

Falafel Profits

JERUSALEM—According
to tax experts. the net
income of a falafel vendor
in downtown Jerusalem in
1976 was IL440.000 ($44.000).
The tax people say one
falafel sells for about IL 5.
The vendor makes a profit
of IL 2.9 on each sale.
between 63-65 cents and an
enterprising vendor can sell
some 500 servings a day.
Both the hippopotamus
and the crocodile were once
found in the Land of Israel.

ater's production of "She
Stoops to Conquer," by Oli.
ver Goldsmith.

A First Step

"Cleanliness is next to
godliness," it is said. Care-
fulness leads to cleanliness,
cleanliness to purity, purity
to humility, humility to
saintliness, saintliness to
fear of sin, fear of sin to
holiness and holiness to
immortality.
