Four luncheon specials
per day have been per-
fected...most changing
daily. with few
repeats... When Tunnel
opened a short while ago, it
had only one special lunch-
eon and that was it...The
prices are most reasonable.
Our recent dinner there
was a most delightful expe-
rience..:Watching three
rotisseries with all the ribs
being constantly basted with
savory drippings, was a
most thrilling sight...This is
how we like ribs...and the
first impression was cer-
tainly a very good one.
Pleasant, quietly efficient
waitress Debbie Corsi,
brought us bar-b-qued ribs
that weren't just good...they
were excellent...not greasy
or the kind that heavily lie
in your stomach...tender,
meaty and extremely tasty.
The, hot, garlic-buttered
rolls are a delicacy...as are
the mouth-watering pas-
tries...baked at. TBQ's Pas-
try Place in Windsor and
brought over daily in a spe-
cially-built refrigerated
truck.

BOB WEBB

WRITES... - Some people
have a knack at changing a
poor location into a real
money-maker. The Beef and
Bird restaurant was at one
time almost invisible as one
drove in either direction
down Southfield Rd. in Lath-
rup Village north of Eleven
Mile.
A bright sign, in keeping
with the general style of the
architecture, was enough to
turn a fair share of the pass-
ing parade into regular
customers.
"Another place which
took over and is thriving in
what was considered a 'bad'
location is the Old Time
Deli on Orchard Lake Rd.
just south of 12 Mile. The
site is a good 10 feet below
the road level and visitors
had no access to 12 Mile Rd.
Located on the west side of
Orchard Lake Rd., a section
divided at that point by a
cement guard rail, a diner
had to turn south well past
Oakland Community Col-
lege and the expressway
before turning into a side
road and then backtracking
at least half a mile to reach
12 Mile or to continue north-
bound on Orchard Lake.
"It took some legal
maneuvering. but when
Lyle Labell got a driveway
through to the gas station
lot on 12 Mile just north of
the Old Time Deli, business
began to pick up. Labell
also added enough lights in
the parking lot to read a
newspaper at midnight,
threw the doors open 24
hours a day and has been
most successful in the same
location where other have
failed."
