The Best of Everything
EVER GO TO a place,
enjoy it thoroughly and
then say they couldn't be
any better? ... This hap-
pened to us recently ... The
first time we went to Club
Berkley on Woodward and
11 1/2 Mile, was after it had
been taken over by Freda
and Frank Bedient ... and
following the discovery that
Frank and his fine manager
Phil Roy had gotten back
the chef of yesteryears,
Ezzie Holyck.
We took brother Mary
and sister-in-law Shirley
with us the next time ...
He's the type of person who
doesn't rave about food ...
To him, it's just fuel for the
body furnace ... He and
Shirley are a couple of skep-
tics with us who didn't ex-

piano, give out with soft, re-
laxing music for fine listen-
ing and dancing ... plus join-
ing in with others singing at
the piano bar ... Howard
and Bob do a wonderful job
with songs of yesterday and
today ... They're among the
best duos in town.
Returning to Club Berk-
ley was a great experience
... a true gastronomical ad-
venture of pure elegance ...
Everything was better than
before ... and it was great
then! ... The cozy dining in
such pleasant atmosphere
is beyond wordage ... let
alone the very delicious din-
ners we had ... However
Ezzie prepares the Dover
Sole, it is most delicious.
Frank's wife, Freda,
helps out as hostess on
Friday and Saturday
nights, and Shirley Cohen is
the regular daily hostess...
If you have to wait at the
bar a short time before
your table is ready on the
weekends, you won't be
sorry ... Club Berkley is
one of the very few places
anywhere we will wait to
dine out ... that's how su-
perb it is!
WE'LL BE ONE of the
judges at Evergreen
Plaza's Ging Gong Show,
this Saturday, 1 p.m. __It'll
be outside, with a stage
being built for the show ...
One of the other judges,
Henry Yee, is bringing an
authentic Chinese gong.
WHEN SHOPPING in
New Jersey, don't go to
Bloomingdale's for lunch if
you want a hamburger ...
Menu says five ounces, but
its more like a shriveled up
two or three ounces...$2.55.
THERE'S A MIN-
IATURE Las Vegas revue
in town ... the Bic Carrol
Show at Detroit's Playboy
Club on James Couzens and
Greenfield ... Only thing
missing are lights flashing
a la- extravaganza ...
There's comedy, singing,
dancing, music, beautiful
costuming and partly-nude
girls ... Some of the head-
dresses are so high the gals
have to duck and hold on
going into their dressing
MOM.
We were there opening
night and enjoyed the show
... It was short, but take in
consideration that in Vegas,
there are plenty of girls
and a lot of different acts,
so the girls can rest or
stand by while others are
dancing ... Here, Bic, the
three musicians and the
three lassies are going at it
full time in hard work.
It was only the second
evening with her own sta-
tion for our cute bunny wait-
ress, Denise Mifsud,' who
brought us a nice piece of
red snapper and a bottle of
Pouilly Fouisse in the quiet,
beautiful surroundings Play-
boy Clubs are noted for ...
It is easily one of Detroit's
most elegant and beautiful-
ly intimate spots ... Now
with Bob Lakin as general
manager, Detroit's Playboy
Club will undoubtedly be
even better than ever •
Night manager Al Woodside
also knows what he's doing
and does it well.
