Mr. and Mrs. Menachem Landau, shown in the top pho-
tograph at left, were presented a scroll last week on be-
half of Young Israel of Oak-Woods by Sam Platt at the con-
gregation's annual banquet. The plaque noted the Landaus'
15-year association with the synagogue. Platt served as
president when Landau joined Oak-Woods as sexton 15
years ago. In the bottom photograph, Mr. and Mrs. WI-
bert Simkovitz, left, were presented a plaque "in honor of
their dedicated service as founders of the organization."
Morris Asher, chairman of the Oak-Woods board, made
the presentation at the banquet.

The new synagogue will
be compiised of about
16,000 square feet on two
levels. The main floor will
contain a sanctuary with a
permanent seating capacity
of 250, an expansion seating
area, a social hall with ad-
joining kitchen, offices and
a library. The lower level
will contain 13 classrooms
for the Beth Israel Reli-
gious School, school offices,
a children's library, youth
lounge and small chapel.
Beth Israel, Ann Arbor's
oldest existing congrega-
tion, was founded in 1916.
Rabbi Allan D. Kensky is
spiritual leader and Dr.
David E. Schteingart, presi-
dent.

Lubavitch to Honor Tamaroff
for Chabad House on Wheels

Marvin Tamaroff will be
honored 2 p.m. June 26 for
his sponsorship of the "Cha-
bad House On Wheels" mo-
bile student center.
The dedication of the mo-
bile center will be held, at
the Tamaroff Buick-Opel
showroom in
Southfield.

The program will include
a kosher cheese-and-wine
buffet, and an informal talk

merman, a pianist, will
also provide musical enter-
tainment
The "Chabad House On
Wheels" was the idea of
Rabbi Yitzchok M. Lipszyc
last year. Tamaroff lent an
18-foot motor home for
Rabbi Lipszyc's visit to Jew-
ish communities of the
Upper Peninsula last fall,
and he ultimately agreed to

donate a 27-foot Winnebago
motor-home.
It is outfitted. with cus-
tom-designed Mon Kodesh,
library, student tables,
beds, a kosher kitchen, CB
radio and a stereo system
capable of playing both in-
side the home and outside
through external speakers.

A special kidush will be
held in celebration of a
-double siyum (completion)
of the Talmud tractate,
Baba Kama, and the
Tanya, the source work of
Habad-Lubavitch Hasidism,
Saturday following morning
services at the Lubavitcher
Center in Oak Park.
There will also be a guest
lectdre on the high points of
the works studied. The pub-
lic is invited,
