mer Mayor of Hebron,
Sheikh Muhamed Ali Ja-
bari, and the Deputy Min-
ister for Agriculture,
Sheikh Jabr Muadi.
For the first time a dele-
gation of men and women
from the villages of Klea
and Marj Ajun in southern
Lebanon took part, headed
by Farmis Risak, the politi-
cal adviser of the military
forces in southern Lebanon.
A Druse orchestra played
Israeli, Druse and Arab
folk songs. In the midst of
the festivities the Danish
Prime Minister, Ancer Jor-
genssen, and his wife ar-
rived in a helicopter. They
came directly from Ben-
Gurion airport, and the Pre-
mier said that he was deep-
ly touched to see that Jews
and Arabs could live togeth-
er harmoniously.
About the time of the
Allon reception, a number
of Israeli newspaper' editors
toured new settlements in
the Jordan Valley.
Travel was along a new
road from Maale Adumim
(half-way between Jerusa-
lem and Jericho) to Maale
Efraim near the Jordan Val-
ley. The construction of the
road cost 50 million pounds
and there are 15 settle-
ments in the area.
The first settlement in
this area, Nahal Klea was
established in the Jordan
Valley in 1968. Members of
the Kibutz Hameuhad move-
ment rebuilt former Kibutz

Visits were made to a
number of other settle-
ments in the area, founded
by members of Ihud Hak-
vutzot, Bnai Akiva and Ki-
butz Hameuhad move-
ments.
Along the Jordan river at
the Aram bridge, Israeli sol-
diers were busy search-
ing Arabs who cross the
bridge to Jordan. The sol-
diers reported that once an
old woman from Khan
Yunis in the Gaza strip
brought shoes for her grand-
child and in their soles
bomb detonators were
found.
During the last 10 years
seven million Arabs crossed
the Aram bridge. Most
Arabs come to Israel for
short visits during the sum-
mer months. Goods worth
the one and a half billion
dollars were transported
over the bridge, and 50,000
tourists came over the
bridge last year to Israel.

Expansion Funds

NEW YORK—Histadrut's
medical system, Kupat
Holim, has adopted a budg-
et of about $30 million for
development of its in-
stitutions in the fiscal year
1977-78, and is seeking
sources to finance an addi-
tional $20 million for the
building of new medical cen-
ters and clinics.
Dr. Chaim Doron, chair-
man of Kupat Holim, made
the announcement in Haifa,
at the dedication ceremo-
nies to two wings of the
new Carmel Hospital.
Dr. Doron stated that
Kupat Holim's new policy
is to erect community medi-
cal centers and clinics,
rather than build more hos-
pitals. He said this would
strengthen the ambulatory
services for people who do
not need to be placed in hos-
pitals.
