LISTENING
POST

(Editor's note: Last
week's Listening Post col-
umn incorrectly included
the by-line of Hy Lewis
over the column from Las
Vegas written by Danny
Raskin. We apologize to
our readers and colum-
nists for the error.)
QUITE A CHANGE
. . . from Las Vegas to
Henry Ford Hospital . . .
Las Vegas with its glitter-
ing lights, action-packed
varied routine, elegant
dinners and parade of
fabulous shows.
Henry Ford Hospital
with its dimmed-down
lights, regular daily se-
date routine, so much
food they should be
ashamed to serve and the
only show there looking
out the window and se-
eing the sun shine amidst
the chilly environs of Mr.
Frost.
The resemblance bet-
ween our tour trip via Un-
ited Airlines and Henry
Ford Hospital does have
some togetherness . . .
food served frozen, happy
faced and dead-panned
employees just doing a
job — nothing else, and
long-waiting periods.
Still can't figure out
why winning the grand
Prize from Dysautonomia
didn't include air fare as
the tickets indicated . . .
Then we could have gone
anytime we wanted in-
stead of with a re-
gimented, rowdy group.
IT'S FINALLY HERE
. . . that fabulous smor-
gasbord at Topinka's
Country. House on Seven
Mile and Telegraph . . .
probably one of the best of
its kind anywhere . . . All
you can eat for $8.95, in-
cludinc, over 100 items
. . . eight entrees, over 30
salads, dessert table,
huge fresh fruit table, etc.
. . . Tuesday through
Saturday, 5 to 11 p.m.. . .
Sunday 12 to 8 p.m. . . .
Non-smorgasbord diners
can also select from the
menu . . . If you like
smorgasbord dining,
you'll go ga-ga over the
one at Al Balooly's To-
pinka'S Country House.
A YEAR AFTER
Jonathan Goldhaber, son
of Joel and Jackie Gol-
dhaber, was born, he be-
came a potential name
celebrity . . Grandma
Lee Shlom, Joel's mom,
with her 20 years' experi-
ence around town, told
his parents that she
wanted a store named
after Jonathan . . . so she
woulc outfit him with his
Bar Mitzva suit .. . . And
so, in the month of
Jonathan's second birth-
day, Lee will open
Jonathan's Men & Prep
store in the Evergreen
Plaza . . . probably the
first week in March . . .
Jonathan will not only
start young at having
labels with his name in
the clothes he wears . . .
but who else will have
them on the bags, too!
HERMAN THE BOSS is
coming to town . . He's a

However, his first meet-
ing, Monday at Raleigh

ficers will be installed by
Fred Morrison, Jr., impe-

WHILE SO MANY re-
staurateurs cry about
business, Bob Jacobs of
Buddy's Pizza on Conant
and E. McNichols,. says
business in January was
up 30- percent over
January of last year . . .
Bob claims the reason is
food and service are bet-
ter than ever . . : Course,
a lotto do with it are those
new dishes at Buddy's
. . . vegetarian pizza, 1/3
pound hamburgers, Ita-
lian sausage, etc.
ONE OF THE doctors
here at Henry Ford Hos-
pital who naturally pref-
ers to remain anonymous,
told us about a patient in
bed with feeding and
drainage tubes strapped
on him , . . A house T
keeper, who had come in
to clean, muttered that
she couldn't find an outlet
for a lamp . . . "Plug it in
me," the patient said
Weakly. "Everything else
is. -
NO, GOULD'S Beef
Buffet is not out of busi-
ness . . . Still going
strong . . . New Coach
Lamp Sign is for waitress
serving portion of Jerry
Gould's dining spot.
DON RICKLES putting,
down a disgruntled wri-
ter in Las Vegas . .
"You think you've got it
tough! In Russia, you
can't get into the writer's
guild until you turn in a
manuscript — and two
other writers. -
THE NURSING and as-
sistants staff here on the
8-5 dermatology floor at
Henry Ford Hospital is
little short of great . . . a
bunch of wonderful gals
whose dedication to their'
patients is truly a joy to
behold.
