Politicos Lining Up for Election

TEL AVIV (JTA) —
Former Foreign Minister
Abba Eban withdrew his
candidacy for the Labor
Party's nomination for
Premier last week and
announced his support
for Defense Minister
Shimon Peres.
Chaim Herzog, Israel's
Ambassador to the Un-
ited Nations, has decided
not to quit his post in
order to run for office in
the May 17 general elec-
tions. .
Meanwhile, the Inde-
pendent Liberal Party
suffered. a major blow
w h en Hillel Seidel, one of
four MKs, announced
is leaving the ILP to
join the Liberal. Party,
one of the two major fac-
tions in Likud.

A new bill which was
passed on first reading in
the Knesset last week will
increase the number of
eligible voters in the. May
17 elections. -
The bill would open the
registration lists which
were closed last Aug. 11
and allow anyone who
will be 18 by election day
to vote. It also will permit
anyone who became an
Israeli citizen by last Dec.
31 to be eligible to vote.

withdrew her work_ from
the opening exhibition of .

in Paris about which so
much has been written.
