Church Quiet on M.E. Issue
WASHINGTON, (JTA)
— Idaho's Senator Frank
Church, the most senior
Democrat on the Senate
Foreign Relations Com-
mittee after chairman
John
Sparkman of
Alabama, is wary of the
flood of statements and
activities related to the
Arab-Israeli conflict and
will not comment on them
yet except on one major
matter.
On the Palestine Liber-
ation Organization's ef-
forts to become accepta-
ble to the United States,
he is firmly negative.

That's the Tamaroff Sales Policy.
Tamaroff Buick-Opel will make it possible for you to stop
getting the run-around when you buy a car. We will not bounce,
bump or hassle you. That means we will sell you the car you want,
at the prices we quoted. And we are known for giving
very good prices on very good cars.
Sound good?
That's our sales policy in less than 60 words. And we mean
to stick to it.
Tamaroff-Buick-Opel is the Buick sales leader in this area.
That comes from sticking to our sales policy. Another reason is our
large inventory of great new cars right here available to our
customers. So you might not have to wait for the free-spirited
Buick, Opel or Honda you want.

He urged "an alterna-
tive course" that would
arouse a maximum effort
of public opinion "as ex-
pressed by citizen con-
claves and governments"
to "persuade the Rus-
sians that it would be in
their own interest to
begin opening the gate (of
emigration) again."

SEN. FRANK CHURCH
ference,” Church said in
an interview with the
Jewish Telegraphic
Agency. "Who should
represent the Palestinian
people is a very sensitive
matter. Terrorist groups
are hardly qualified to
pose as governments, in
or out of exile."
On human rights in in-
ternational affairs and
Soviet emigration, Church
found the Soviet Union
had "solemnly promised"
in the Helsinki accords of
August 1975 to adhere to
the right of emigration
which, he said, "surely in-
clude Russian Jews" but
"the evidence is that
rather than opening doors,
the Russian government
has tended to pull them
more closely shut."
"The United States
should give emphasis and
publicity to the failure of
the Russians to adhere to
the Helsinki agreement
and should endeavor to
get other governments to
do the same," he said.
Church, who delivered
a major address at the
Second Brussels Confer-
ence for Soviet Jewry last
spring, has reiterated
that the Jackson-Vanik
provisions of the Trade
Reform Act has "failed to
work" and suggested its
disappearance when the
act expires in 1980.
