Film Series
Isadore Winkelman's 75th
The Labor Zionist Al-
liance will show the first
movie in its film series,
"From Holocaust to Re-
demption," 8 p.m. Sun-
day. The movie, "Shop on
Main Street," will be
screened in the Laikin
Auditorium of the Labor
Zionist Institute.
The two remaining
films in the series are
"Exodus," with Paul
Newman, and "Journey
to Jerusalem," with
Leonard Bernstein and
aac Stern.
Tickets for each film
are available at the door.

Isadore Winkelman,
honorary chairman of
Winkelman Stores Inc.,
will be honored on his
75th birthday with a fam-
ily party hosted by his
wife, Beryl, children and
grandchildren Saturday
at the Franklin Hills
Country Cluh.
Co-founder of the firm
which bears his name,
Mr. Winkelman and his
brother, Leon, opened the
first Winkelman store on
Fort St. in Detroit in 1928.
Leon died in 1958. His son,
Stanley J., is chairman of
the board.
The company currently
operates 77 fashion • spe-
cialty stores in Michigan,
Ohio and Illinois.
Throughout the years,
Mr. Winkelman has been

NEW YORK — "The
Changing Face of New
York's Synagogikes,
1730-1974," is the first of
this season's special
exhibits at the Yeshiva
University Museum. It
opens Sunday and runs
through January 1977, it
was announced by Dalia
Tawil, curator.
The
photographic
exhibit, made possible by
a grant from the New
York State Council on the
Arts, focuses on 40 con-
gregations in New York
City's five boroughs and
their synagogue build-
ings.
The history of the
synagogues is traced
back to the 18th century
when, in 1730, the Mill
Street Synagogue, now
the Spanish and Por-
tuguese Synagogue of
Central Park West, was
formed.

at Pontiac Dinner
Steve Gaynor, MGM re-
cording artist and night-
club and television enter-
tainer, will appear as
guest speaker at the tri-
bute dinner on behalf of
State of Israel Bonds
honoring Dr. Harold L.
Bienenfeld of Pontiac.
The dinner will be held
6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Cong.
Bnai Israel, and is under
the auspices of Pontiac
Bnai Brith Lodge, in con-
junction with the Greater
Pontiac Jewish commun-
ity.
Dinner chairman is

chairman is Ralph Mer-

patterns of immigration
of Jewish life in New
York.
To complement the
show, the museum is
mounting another
exhibit, "For Splendor
and For Glory," a selec-
tion of contemporary em-
broideries for the
synagogue.
