Masada Special
Controversy

An advertisement ap-
pearing in last week's
Jewish News publicized
the showing of a special
program on Masada at 5 --'
p.m. Sept. 19 on WWJ-TV,
Ch. 4.
The program has ap-
peared twice during the
past week on Ch. 50 and
once on Ch. 20, and The
Jewish News has received
several calls and letters
questioning the propriety
of publishing an adver-
tisement for an evangeli-
cal organization.
Jewish News staffers
have found the Masada
broadcast to adhere to
the traditional story and
the fact that an Evangel-
ical group sponsored the
program ;in no sense
shows proselytization at-
tempts.
Letters from the spon-
soring group to those cor-
responding with it may
bring propaganda mate-
rial supporting the religi- -
ous beliefs of the spon-
sors. Caution is suggested.-
in that regard. Other-
wise, viewers will find'
christology on the theme
only in the name of the
sponsor of the program.
