Artist Sol Node! Dead at 63
NEW YORK (JTA) -
Sol Nodel, one of the
world's leading artist-
illuminators, died Aug. 22
at age 63. He was the re-
cipient of numerous in-
ternational awards and
his works have been dis-
played throughout the
world.
Born in Washington,
D.C., Nodel's works are in
collections in five Royal
Houses of Europe and the
Far East and are rep-
resented in permanent
collections in the Na-
tional Archives in
Washington, the Herbert
Mover Museum, Harry
Truman Library, Library
of Congress and the
Franklin D. Roosevelt
Hyde Park Library.
A Life Fellow of the
British Royal Society of
Arts, his works are owned
by American Presidents,
and American religious,
political and artistic fi-
gures. Nodel was elected

Bernard J. Walton
Bernard James Wal-
ton, executive comptroller
for Guardian Steel Co., died
Aug. 24 at age 60.
Born in Omaha, Neb.,
Mr. Walton lived most of
his life in Detroit. He
joined the steel company
in 1941. He was
graduated from Walsh
College. of Accounting
and was former secretary
and treasurer of Israel
Lodge of Bnai Brith.
He leaves a son,
Ronald; a daughter, Gale;
his mother, Mrs. William
(Frances) Weinberg; two
sisters. Mrs. Eugene
(Rita) Kornfield and Mrs.
Leon (Lola) Heller.

Bnai Brith. In addition he
was the author of several
books and a violinist.

E. Betty Franklin, a
budget analyst with the
auditing department of
Wayne County for 42
years, died Aug. 22 at age
64.
Born in Massachusetts,
she resided at 17150
Richard, Southfield. She
leaves two brothers, Mor-
ris Fine and JiMmy Fine;
and two sisters, Mrs.
Hyman (Evelyn) Rosen
and Mrs. Harold (Ida)
Orman.
Ella Goodman, 62
Ella Goodman, an ac-
tive member of Jewish
communal organizations,
died in Meson Aug. 21 at
age 62.
A native Detroiter,
Mrs. Goodman lived in
Tucson since 1948. While
in Detroit she was a
member of .Bnai Brith.
In Tucson, she was a
past president of Tucson
Chapter of Bnai Brith
Women and a member of
its • executive board, an
adviser to Bnai Brith
Girls for 20 years and a
board member of the
Anti-Defamation League
Council of- -Bna-i-Brith-.
She was president of the
Friends of Hillel at the
University of Arizona, a
member of the Tucson
Jewish Community
Council Board, chairman
of the Tucson Jewish
Community Center's
calendar committee, was
a team chairman of the
United Community Cam-
paign and worked for the
combined Jewish appeal
campaign. She was a
member of Cong. Anshei
Israel in Tucson.
Mrs. Goodman is sur-
vived by her husband,
Max; a son, Jacl. of
Phoenix; two daughters,
Mrs. Malvin- (Harriet)
Rice. of Phoenix and MS.
Gayle Goodman; two
brothers, Jim Silverstone
of Oak Park and Phillip
Silverstein of Oak Park; a
sister, Mrs. Sarah Cooke

Moshe Mayerson

Moshe Mayerson, a
former legal adviser to
the Canadian Jewish
Congress, died Aug. 22 at
age 83. Mr. Mayerson.,
who was an expert on the
rights of minorities in
Canada, was the author
of "Germany's War
Crimes in World War I.•'
Born in the Ukraine, he
came to Canada at an
early age and served in
the Canadian army in
World War I.
Poet Lazar Dinsky
NEW YORK ( JTA) -
Lazar Dinsky, a Yiddish
poet, died Aug. 20 at the age
of 85.
Many of his works re-
flected the struggles of
the labor movement in
the. late 1920s and early
1930s when he was an or-
ganizer of fur workers in
New•York. His books in
Yiddish include "In the
Meantime, - and "Days in
Shop.'
