the urgency of supporting
Israel's universities. He
described his most recent
visit on the Bar-Ilan campus
in Ramat Gan and called the
religiously-oriented school a
gem in Israel's university
collegium.
David Hermelin and Ir-
ving Nusbaum, co-
chairmen of the annual
Bar-Ilan dinner to be held
Sept. 21, made equally im-
pressive appeals for Bar-
Ilan and the efforts to
enroll backers of the
scholarships of $500 each.
Nusbaum also described
his most recent visit at Bar-
Ilan and spoke glowingly of
the newly-inspired mood
that arose from the Entebbe
triumph.
Phillip Stoliman, global
chairman of the governors
of Bar-Ilan University, and
Dr. Leon Fill, last year's
dinner chairman,
supplemented these ad-
dresses with evaluations of
Bar-Ilan's urgent needs in
time of crisis and com-
mended the generous gifts
announced at that evening's
parlor meeting.
"Israel cannot afford
not to have a sophisticated
scientifically - oriented
population," Dr. Haber
declared in his speech. He
pointed to Israel's
progress in developing
higher education in-
stitutions and pointed out
that the college population
of 3,000 in Israel in 1950
had grown to 52,000 in
1975.
"What you are doing here
tonight for Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity is part of the vitally
needed dedication to Israel,"
he added.
