Institute Officials, Mayor Young,
Artists Applaud Silberstein's Gift

in Los Angeles.
Noted artists, Art Insti-
tute officials and commu-
nity personalities joined in
expressing pride in Detroit's
acquisition of the $150,000
nude.
Mayor Coleman Young,
who joined spokesmen for
the local artists in ap-
plauding the Silberstein
gift, described it as enh-
ancing Detroit's artistic
possessions. The mayor
accepted the statue as part
of the city's Bicentennial
Homecoming Week and

275th birthday observ-
ance.
Participants in the pro-
gram marking the accept-
ance of the expressive art
work were Norman Weston,
president of the Institute's
Founders Society; Michael
Kan, Dr. John Neff and Lee
Hills.
The life-size "Flora" is the
fifth of six casts, and one of
three versions sculpted by
Maillol in 191041.
More than 50 community
art leaders attended the
program.

DON RIEGLE

DEMOCRAT FOR -U.S. SENATE

The moral necessity for supporting Israel is clear. To turn our backs
on this country would be to reject the values of liberty and human
dignity which have been the moving spirit of our country since its
foundation. U.S. strategic interests require a strong and secure
Israel as a key ally in the Middle East.
