Mobilizing forces to provide aid for cultural and
youth training activities in Israel, the Zionist Organiza-
tion of Detroit last Sunday enrolled a large group of
workers for the annual Balfour Concert to be held Nov. 7
at Ford Auditorium. Dr. Joel Hamburger and Dr. Jack
Greenberg, this year's co-chairmen, presided at the
kick-off brunch at the Zionist Cultural Center. Philip
Slomovitz, guest speaker, defined the objectives of the
annual event, proceeds of which go towards the support
of the ZOA House in Tel Aviv, the Zionist Cultural Cen-
ter financed by ZOD's parent organization, the Zionist
Organization of America, and the Kfar Silver Agricul-
tural and Technical Training Center and the Mollie
Goodman High School near Ashkelon in Israel. The
leadership for the Balfour Concert this year that partici-
pated in Sunday's kick-off included, from left, seated,
Dr. Greenberg, associate chairman; Mrs. Ira G. Kauf-
man, honorary chairman; Dr. Hamburger, concert
chairman; and from left, standing, are Dr. Theodore
Mandell, president of the ZOD; Mrs. Jack Greenberg,
co-chairman of the women's committee; Slomovitz, Jew-
ish News editor and publisher and luncheon speaker;
Mrs. Sidney Z. Leib, women's committee chairman;
Mrs. I Walter Silver, golden sponsor chairman and pub-
licity chairman; and Mrs. Joel Hamburger, women's
committee co-chairman.

Dr. Turkel, who cele-
brated his 73rd birthday,
was honored for his 30 years
of work helping victims of
the disease.

Histadrut Enrolling Delegates
to Israel Solidarity Meeting
The Israel Histadrut
Foundation, through local
co-chairmen Morris Fried-
man and Nathan P. Rossen,
have announced that reser-
vations are now being taken
for the Second Annual His-
tadrut Solidarity Confer-
ence in Israel at the Tel
Aviv-Hilton Hotel Nov.
13-16.
The conference will dem-
onstrate solidarity with Is-
rael, focus attention on the
internal problems of Israel's
society and the programs of
Histadrut.
Major addresses will be
delivered by Golda Meir;
Yitzhak Rabin; Yeruham
Meshel, secretary general of
Histadrut; and Abba Eban.
Delegates will also partici-
pate in special tours.
Persons who wish to
participate in the special
Histadrut travel arrange-
ments do not necessarily
have to be contributors t
the Israel Histadrut Cam-
paign. Applications will be
accepted from anyone
wishing to enroll in the
Israel Histadrut Founda-
tion.
An information meeting
will be held noon Sunday at
the Labor Zionist Institute,
featuring Harry Lipsius,
associate director of the Is-
rael Histadrut Foundation.
