Furthermore, in a sepa-
rate study released by the
Modern Language Associa-
tion of America, figures in-
dicate that Yeshiva Univer-
sity students make up more
than 22 percent of those stu-
dents enrolled in Hebrew
studies courses in all Ameri-
can colleges and universi-
ties.
According to Prof. Morris
Silverman, registrar, "This
past semester, Yeshiva Uni-
versity, not including its af-
filiates, offered a total of
240 courses in Hebrew and
Jewish studies, of which 181
were undergraduate and 59
were graduate. Rabbi Isaac
Elchanan Theological Semi-
nary, an affiliate of the Uni-
versity, and its Cantorial
Training Institute, offered
an additional 29 courses."
Professor ,. Silverman
noted that every two years
the Modern Language Asso-
ciation of America surveys
enrollments in foreign lan-
guages in all American col-
leges and universities. The
last such survey, made in
the fall, 1974, showed that
the total enrollment in He-
brew courses in the U.S.
was 22,371. Yeshiva Univer-
sity accounted for 4,940
such enrollments, or 22.1
percent.
