The Detroit Friends of
Shaare Zedek Hospital in
Jerusalem will embark on a
new $250,000 building cam-
paign at their annual dinner
June 30 at the Sheraton
Southfield Hotel.
Following completion of
their $100,000 fund raising
campaign for the new medi-
cal center's dialysis unit, the
Detroit Friends will now
focus on special programs in
physical medicine and reha-
bilitation, which is of spe-
cial importance in Israel
where wounded soldiers
have to be treated and, if
possible, returned to a nor-
mal life.
A hospital spokesman
recently said that the func-
tion of Shaare Zedek's
physical medicine and re-
habilitation department is
to assist patients to over-
come permanent disability
or to adjust to it. This ad-
justment involves retrain-
ing of muscular function
by physiotherapy and oc-
cupational therapy. It of-
ten requires speech ther-
apy as well.
Vocational guidance and
retraining together with
psychological counselling
often is necessary before the
patient is rehabilitated. Pa-
tients will be treated as out-
patients and inpatients.
Special donor projects
and dedications are not lim-
ited to the physical medi-
cine and rehabilitation pro-
gram by the Detroit
Friends, and any project can
be selected from any area in
the new hospital.
At the opening of the new
Shaare Zedek Medical Cen
ter, which is scheduled for
December, 1977, special
plaques will be affixed in
honor of the following do-
nors who contributed to the
dialysis unit:
Mrs. Rose Amber, donor
of the physicians' room,
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Kra-
kovits, Mr. and Mrs.
George Herczeg, and Mr.
and Mrs. William
Schwartz, donors of the di-
alysis solution preparation
room, Mrs. Pearl Nosan-
chuk, donor of the secre-
tary's office and reception
room, Jacob and Ida No-
