Hospitals Urged
to Adopt 'Rights'
for Jewish . Patients

NEW YORK — Agudath
Israel of America called on
the nation's hospitals to
adopt a nine article bill of
rights for Jewish patients
recently released by the or-
ganization. The document
comes on the heels of a
"Patients' Bill of Rights"
adopted earlier for all pa-
tients by the American Hos-
pital Association.
Agudath Israel intro-
duced its brochure on the
bill of rights as a service to
hospital administrators who
are "eager to offer the me ,t
effective healing facilities to
all of their patients." It also
informs Jewish patients
that "a polite but forceful
request for any or all of
these rights will be honored
by hospital administrators."
Dr. Bernard Fryshman,
chairman of the Commis-
sion on Legislation and Civic
Action of Agudath Israel,
who is the author of the
"Jewish Patients' Bill of
Rights," emphasized that
"lingering neglect by hospi-
tals of the Jewish patients'
unique needs are mainly
due to ignorance by hospital
staff rather than malicious
intent."

At the Pediatric Research
Department of Kaplan Hos-
pital in Rehovot, Prof. Stan-
ley Levin and co-workers
are studying the nature of
immune deficiencies in chil-

dren with Down's syndrome
or mongolism. These young-
sters are known to be partic-
ularly susceptible to serious
infections and leukemia.
Clinical studies on two mon-
goloids showed that the hor-
mone could increase capac-
ity in the body.
