WXYZ-TV (Ch. 7) has
been taken to task for re-
marks its newsmen made
during weekend coverage of
a "Palestinian Day" parade
in Dearborn last Saturday.
According to Ch. 7's Jac
LeGoff Thuie,5day evening,
Prof. Bruce Levine of
Wayne State University and
Rabbi Elmer Berger would
represent the Jewish com-
munity and speak at the
event.
The Jewish Community
Council protested to Ch. 7
on Friday that Rabbi Berger

has no ties with the Jewish
community. A former offi-
cer of the American Council
for Judaism, Rabbi Berger
has a notorious reputation
for "anti-Zionist" and anti-
Israel work.
The television station
covered Saturday's parade
on Michigan Ave. and
rally at the Dearborn City
Hall, which Rabbi Berger
did not attend. Ch. 7 an-
chorman David Wittman
billed the event as "anti-
Zionist, not anti-Jewish."
Reporter Ann Eskridge
stated on the newscast
that the Palestinians were
protesting the theft of
their lands by the Zionists
28 years ago. May 14 is the
anniversary of Israel Inde-
pendence Day on the West-
ern calendar.
No mention was made of
the flight of the Palestini-
ans from Israel at the urg-
ing of Arab leaders in 1948
to make way for the inva-
sion of Arab armies.

said the Zionists stole the
land of the Palestinians and
populated it with the vic-
tims of the Nazi death
camps.
A Wayne State Univer-
sity spokesman said Mon-
day that Levine was an in-
structor, not a professor, in
the Weekend College pro-
gram of WSU's College of
Life Long Learning.
Dearborn police esti-
mated the crowd at
800-1,000 persons. Hassan
Abdul Rahman, a member
of the Palestine Liberation
Organization delegation
at the United Nations also
spoke at the rally, which
was called by the sponsors
as a show of support for
the PLO.
The entire week was de-
clared Palestinian Week by
the Dearborn City Council.
According to one of the ral-
ly's spokesmen, the Detroit
area has the largest Moslem
population in North Amer-
ica.
