TEL AVIV (JTA) — Is-
raeli forces intercepted and
killed three terrorists who
tried to infiltrate Israeli ter-
ritory from Jordan Monday
night. A military spokes-
man said the terrorists
came from a base in Syria.
The encounter was the
first in seven months with
terrorists using Jordan as a
corridor to enter Israel.
Meanwhile, heavy secu-
rity measures remained in
force on the West Bank and
East Jerusalem following
widespread disturbances.
Curfews were in effect in
Nablus, Jenin, Balta and
other towns in the Samaria
region. Re-enforced units
patroled the Old City of Je-
rusalem following several
stone-throwing incidents by
Arab youths and a partial
strike by merchants.
A bomb explosion that
severely damaged a villa
in the wealthy suburb of
Zahala Monday was at-
tributed to underworld
elements by Tel Aviv
Mayor Shlomo Lehat. Le-
hat, who lives in the sub-
urb, said the bomb was ap-
parently intended for him
but the perpetrators
planted it by mistake at
the nearby home of an-
other Shlomo Lehat, an
industrialist and former
army colonel who is pre-
sently visiting Belgium as
the head of an Israeli trade
delegation.
The Israel Radio reported
receiving an anonymous
telephone call that the bomb
was meant for the mayor's
house. Some sources believe
it may have been in retalia-
tion for the mayor's recent
orders to demolish any
buildings erected without a
municipal license.
Meanwhile, a disaster
was averted in the Mahane
Yehuda market when an
explosive charge was discov-
ered and removed by police
Sunday during the shopping
rush.
Police are questioning six
suspects in connection with
the explosion of a small pipe
bomb in a Tel Aviv movie
house, Cinema I, May 11.
Three patrons were slightly
injured by the blast and an
usher was trampled in the
stampede to leave the thea-
ter.
Meanwhile, a military
tribunal in Lod imposed a
22-year prison sentence on
a convicted terrorist from
Nablus, Louis Nafw Abdu,
who was charged with at-
tempting to plant a bomb

at Ben Gurion Airport last
July 18. An accomplice,
Ahmed Ya Yish, will be
sentenced next month.
Abdu was allegedly re-
cruited by El Fatah while
studying at the Beirut
University last year.
Another terrorist, Mous-
tafa Mouhammed of the El
Turkman tribe, was given a
12-year prison sentence by a
military tribunal in Jenin.
He was injured while pre-
paring a bomb. A six-year
prison term was imposed
earlier on Mahmud Ghazlim
of Yafiah village in Israel,
who was allegedly recruited
and trained by Mouhammed
and served as his accompl-
ice.

NEW YORK (JTA) — The
60th anniversary of Sholom
Aleichem's death (May
1916-May 1976) was ob-
served by Radio Liberty in a
special half-hour Russian
and Yiddish Program for
Soviet Jewish listeners. The
prdgram consisted of Uni-
versity of Illinois Prof.
Maurice Friedberg's evalua-
tion of Sholom Aleichem's
contribution to both Yiddish
and world literature.
Also included was a dra-
matization in Yiddish of the
dream scene from "Tevye"
which Solomon Mikhoels
adapted for the State Jew-
ish Theater in Moscow.
Mikhoels, who was mur-
dered in 1948 on orders from
Stalin, is heard in the role of
Sholom Aleichem's Tevye in
a rare recording made avail-
able to Radio Liberty by
Prof. Herbert Paper of the
University of Michigan.

The 10th annual Jewish
National Fund Pilgrimage
and Study Mission to Israel
slated to leave Detroit on
July 12, will include 14 days
in Israel and three days in
Amsterdam.
The tour members will
have the opportunity to see
how the average Israeli
lives. They will visit JNF
settlements and participate
in ceremonies dedicating
several special projects, in-
eluding forests and groves.
There also will be opportun-
ities for members to plant
trees with their own hands.
They will stay at kibutzim,
enjoy night life and visit the
defense forces.
