Ford Motor Co. Re-Affirms Stance Against Arab Boycott

The American Jewish
Congress has notified Ford
Motor Co. that it has with-
drawn its stockholder reso-
lution on the Arab boycott.
Although Ford Motor Co.
is presently on the Arab
boycott list, a resolution
proposing that Ford provide
detailed reports to stock-
holders on Arab boycott
matters had been submitted
by Stephen Narin, repre-
senting the AJCongress,
and was included in the
proxy statement for the
company's annual meeting
of stockholders in Dearborn
Thursday.

Withdrawal of the resolu-
tion was in response to a let-
ter from Henry Ford II;
chairman of Ford, to Rabbi
Arthur Hertzberg, presi-
dent of the American Jew-
ish Congress. Rabbi Hertz-
berg stated, "We are
gratified by the declaration
of Henry Ford II and we
hope it will induce other
companies doing business in
the Middle East to follow
the splendid example of
Ford Motor Co." •
Ford outlined the com-
pany's continuing busi-
ness interests in Israel,
and said, "We intend to
continue to do business in
Israel as we have done for
40 years."
Ford said that at the
same time, the company is
actively seeking to expand
normal trade relations with
Arab countries, which have
continued on a small basis
despite Ford's position on

Jewish Resistance
Film Is Available

NEW YORK — The full
story of Jewish resistance in
ghettos and concentration
camps throughout Central
Eastern Europe is pro-
trayed for the first time in a
new sound filmstrip•pro-
duced by the Board of Jew-
ish Education of Greater
New York and the YIVO
Institute for Jewish Re-
search, entitled: "Re-
sistance: Jewish Ghetto
Fighters and Partisans in
Central Eastern Europe."
The 85-frame filnistrip,
with an 18-minute compan-
ion cassette, vividly shows
the widespread Jewish re-
bellions against the Nazis.
"Resistance" covers not only
the heroic Warsaw Ghetto
uprising, but also little-
known armed rebellions in
Vilna, Bialystock, Lublin
Cracow, Tuczyn and Czesto-
chowa.
A special feature of this
presentation is a 24-page
teachers' manual which in-
cludes the full narration
script, a selected bibliogra-
phy and filmography, and
an extensive activity guide
including simulation inter-
views, map exercises, games
and suggestions to stimu-
late further discussion.

`Who Is a Jew
Issue Is Muted

NEW YORK (JTA) — The
Committee for Jewish Sur-
vival has accused Israel's
Minister for Religious Af-
fairs, Yitzhak Rafael, of
paying "hush money" to re-
ligious groups in Israel to
mute their demands that
the "Who is a Jew" issue be
resolved according to ha-
lakha.
Michael Davidson, a
spokesman for the group
which claims world-wide
membership, cited Israeli
newspaper reports alleging
that Raphael is "distrib-
uting incredibly large sums
of money to yeshivot, Kole-
lim (adult schools) and reli-
gious organizations nor-
mally aligned with Agudas
Israel, with the anticipation
that they reciprocate by
honoring him appropriately
by muting their normally
outspoken opposition to the
peril of the 'Who is .a Jew?'
Matter."
Davidson also attacked
"those on the. left adhering
to secular socialist ideology"
in Israel for "trying to cir-
cumvent the authority of
Torah while Dr. Yitzhak Ra-
fael of Mizrachi in classic
`boss Tweed' style seeks to
retain his Mizrachi col-
leagues in a state of benign
neglect with the assertion
that political vested _privi-
leges, positions and inter-
ests should not be dis-
turbed."
The Committee for Jew-
ish Survival charged that
the "Who is a Jew" issue al-
lows "counterfeit 'Jews' to
be admitted to Israel and re-
ceive all the financial and le-
gal privileges of Israeli citi-
zenship."
