Kahane Urges •
Immediate Trial

aaci

22101 Coolidge 1 Block So of 9 Mi

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Jewish Defense League
reported that Rabbi Meir
Kahane, founder of the
JDL, demanded to be put on
trial immediately in Jerusa-
lem on charges filed against
him in 1973 by the Israel
government after he called
for voluntary emigration of
Israeli Arabs and sent let-
ters to more than 3,000 Is-
raeWArabs explaining it to
them and urging them to ac-
cept his plan.
The JDL in Jerusalem
stated that "despite the fact
that a large number of Ar-
abs accepted the idea," Ka-
hane was charged with
"incitdment to rebellion"
and indicted. His trial, they
added, has been in limbo
since he was imprisoned in
the U.S. for more than a
year.
The JDL re-ported that
Kahane, who returned to
Israel last month after he
was ejected from the second
World Conference on Soviet
Jewry in Brussels, called for
Israeli "courage and initia-
tive" in enforcing a Jewish-
Arab exchange of popula-
tions that would see the em-
igration of the vast majority
of Israers'Arabs.
He said the hostility and
hatred of Arabs toward
Israel is an "insoluble
problein" and that Israel's
own Arabs pose "the
greatest danger possible to
the very existence of Is-_
rael." The only solution,
he said, was Arab emigra-
tion from Israel.
He warned, the JDL re-
ported, that "if after a cer-
tain time my trial is not re-
sumed I will once again send
out letters to Arabs urging
emigration."

The Kochs explore as well
the controversial techniques
being administered in sex-
ual dysfunction clinics,
which since the famous
Masters and Johnson book
was published, number in
the thousands.
As the authors point out,
choosing a sex clinic which
uses, rather than abuses the
Masters and Johnson tech-
niques is not easy to do, and
they warn that sex therapy
is expensive. However, they
believe that in the hands of
a scrupulous practictioner,
it can prove beneficial.
Finally, the Kochs exam-
ine the therapeutic services
provided by social service
agencies (how not to get
caught up in a bureaucratic
nightmare and how to find
the right advisors), and they
discuss the techniques used
by family therapists like
Virginia Satir.

According to the Kochs,
married couples in the 1970s
probably have no more mar-
ital diffuculties than they
did in the 1940s and 1950s.
They just feel they have a
right to feel better. To fill
this need, there are many
different kinds of therapy,
and the Kochs provide de-
tails on the approaches

U-S. is Opposed to Unilateral
Military Intervention in Lebanon

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
The United States said it op-
posed military intervention
in Lebanon by any one na-
tion but it refrained from
giving a position on how it
would look upon a coalition
of Arab nations sending a
force into that country to
take control. The State De-
partment Monday declared
its opposition to "outside"
intervention in Lebanon.
Tuesday, however, it as-
serted opposition to "uni-
lateral" action, but empha-
sized it has "no comment"
on Egyptian President An-
war Sadat's .proposal to
Arab League, leaders to or-
ganize a multi-national
Arab contingent to enter
that war-ravaged country.
Department spokesman
Robert Runseth emphasized

"our statement was directed
against any unilateral inter-
vention in Lebanon."
But when he was asked
whether the U.S. would
object to a multi-national
Arab force, he replied
"that would depend on the
Lebanese authorities." He
said he was "not really ad-
dressing" himself to the
Sadat "idea" and the U.S.
has not had time to study
it. A pan-Arab interven-
tion, he said, is "not an
immediate problem."
Meanwhile, Secretary of
State Henry A. Kissinger
said that the U.S. is trying
for a cease-fire in Lebanon
and that the U.S. is in "close
touch" with Syria and other
Arab countries and "some of
the parties in Lebanon."

the people of Israel but to all
Jews and to their Zionist
friends, Jewish and non-
Jewish alike, by its votes in
the recent United Nations
Assembly and at UNESCO
meetings."
The resolution Said that
as a result of that po'sture,
"many artists, Israelis,
Jews, and all non-Jewish
friends of Israel and Zion,
feel themselves dangerously
threatened as to their safety
as welly as their freedom of
movement within that coun-
try (Iraq) an4 as to their
free and unharrassed exit."

Artists Group Urges Boycott

April 2, 1976 43

Artists Equity Association
of New York has called on
the U.S. Committee of the
International Association of
Art/UNESCO, of which it is
a member, not to partici-
pate in the association's con-
gress, scheduled to be held
in Baghdad this May, unless
the Iraqi government gives
"explicit and official" guar-
antees of the safety of parti-
cipants from Israel and
those friendly to Israel.
In a resolution, AEA
noted that since the Bagh-
dad site was approved by
the International Associa-
tion three years ago, "Iraq,
the designated host country
has joined in an act of ag-
gressive war against one of
the society of nations, Is-
rael, that would under
peaceful circumstances have
its artists associations nor-
mally participate."
The resolution noted fur-
ther that "the host country
has, additionally, revealed a
violent hostility, not only to
