BONN — Prof.- Kurt
Ernst Scheer of the Insti-
tute of Nuclear Medicine of
the German Cancer Re-
search Center, Heidelberg,
was invited by the Israeli
Society for Nuclear Medi-
cine to speak on a new proc-
ess he has developed.
It is a method of deter-
mining kidney deficiency
prior to an operation by
means of nuclear examina-
tion so that the extent of the
operation can be specified.
A team of surgeons are al-
ready using this technique
at Heidelberg University
Clinic.
By this method it is possi-
ble to establish exactly
which parts of the affected
kidney are still functioning
properly and which have to
be removed. Thus it may no
longer be necessary to re-
move the whole kidney.
