brate its 50th anniversary at
an installation dinner 7 p.m.
Jan. 27 at Cong. Beth
Achim. Cocktails will be
served at 6:30.
Officers to be installed
are: Edward Rothenberg,
president; Michael Wainer,
vice president; Minneta
Morger and George Victor,
secretaries; Henry Cohen,
treasurer; and Asher Smith,
president ex-officio.
Board of directors in-
cludes Morris Averbuch,
Harold Biller, Arthur Gil-
bert, Meyer Goldstein,
George Goldstein, Sam Ka-
plan, Aaron Karp, Hyman
Margolis, Max Millman,
Sam Plucer, Albert Roggin,
Philip Shiener, Milton
Singer, Jack Victor and Dr.
Martin Barr as honorary
board member.

Activities
in Society

EDWARD ROTHENBERG

The association has for
the past 50 years contrib-
uted to local, national and
international causes.
Scholarships have been
started at Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah, Wayne State
University, Hillel and Ak-
ivit Hebrew day schools
and Hebrew University in
Jerusalem.
Contributions of funds or
equipment have been made
to the Allied Jewish Cam-

paign, Israel Bonds, the
pharmacy laboratory at
Hebrew U. and orphanage
pharmacy in Israel, Wayne
State University and to the
Jewish ,Home for Aged and
to needy referred by the
Jewish Family Service.
Other beneficiaries in-
clude the Retarded Chil-
dren of Michigan Associa-
tion, Children's Leukemia
Foundation of Michigan,
Michigan Cancer Founda-
tion, Hawthorne Center,
Northville State Hospital,
USO, Round Table of
Christians and Jews, Red
Cross, Red Magen David,
Project Hope, Histradrut,
Jewish National Fund,
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary and to newly arrived
Russian Jews.
Chairmen of the anniver-
sary event are Margolis and
Wainer. Past presidents
participating in the pro-
gram include Harry Berlin,
Millman and Roggin.

Yiddish Group Lists Lectures

N. Brewster Broder at-
tended the recent board of
directors meeting of the
National Jewish Welfare
Board in New York. He at-
tended the national confer-
ence on Jewish cultural arts
which JWB conducted in
celebration of the American
Revolution Bicentennial on
behalf of its affiliated Jew-
ish Community Centers and
YM-YWHAs.

The Yiddish committee of
the Jewish Community Cen-
ter will begin its winter-
spring Yiddish lecture se-
ries 3 p.m. Jan. 25 at the 10
Mile Center branch.
Mordecai Teiler and Mor-
ris Nobel will speak on
"Reisen and His Social Phi-
losophy" and "Abraham
Reisen, the Poet," respec-
tively. Theme for the after-
noon is "The 100th Birthday
of the Poet Abraham Re-
isen." Prof. Joseph Prescott
is chairman.
On Feb. 22, "Sholem Alei-
chem's 60th Yahrzeit" will

Panush will give selected
readings from the author's
works. Allen A. Warsen is
chairman for the day.
The March 28 meeting
will feature a forum on
current events. Louis Lev-

rent events and Teiler will
discuss the international
poltical situation. Charles
Driker is chairman.
"One Hundred Years of
Yiddish Theater" is the
theme of the April 25 meet-
ing. Warsen will speak on
"The Origin of the Jewish
Theater" while Harry Wein-
berg will address himself to
"The Yiddish Theater Since
Its Inception." Edwin Shif-
rin will chair the meeting.
Wolf Snyder will speak on
"Their Martyrdom and Lit-
erary Contributions" on
May 23 when the theme will
be "The Martyred Russian
Jewish Authors." Sarah
Friedman will give read-
ings. Morris Friedman will
chair the proceedings.
