20th Century Innovations in Arab Anti-Semitism

the Arabs. The direct cause
for this is the establishment
of the state of Israel.
The Russian Empire,
which was the foremost
standard-bearer of anti-
Semitism before Hitler, is
even today, despite the So-
cialist revolution for the
brotherhood of nations, one
of the most active forces in
strengthening anti-Semi-
tism at the present time.
Present-day anti-Semi-
tism finds expression in an
attack on the anomaly of
Jewish existence and the
so-called "terrible out-
come" of such anomaly —
the ingathering and return
of the Jews to their histori-
cal homeland after 1,900
years of exile.

TEL AVIV — In the
30-hour blaze that ravaged
the building of the Israeli
daily newspaper Haaretz,
large amounts of emergency
medical equipment belong-
ing to Magen David Adorn
(MDA) Israel's Emergency
Medical, Health and Blood
Services, were destroyed.
The fire at the Kyriat Ma-
lacha business complex
housing MDA's chief emer-
gency supply storerooms is
reported to be the biggest in
the city's history and be-
lieved to be a case of "mali-
cious arson" by underworld
figures against Haaretz.

time for their vilification of
Zionism. The national move-
ments in the world have al-
most completed the first
stage of their victory. Colo-
nialism or imperialism is a
thing of the past — except
for the two Communist
Empires — the Russian and
the Chinese. All the na-
tiona• s 'groups, popular or
even tribal, have gained
primary or basic political
indep*islence.
But' now begins a new
stage in the awakening of
various groups whom the
large and strong national
movements swallowed in
the process of implementing
their aspirations.
This swallowing up,
which is tantamount to en-
forced assimilation, oc-
curred in many places in the
world, so that the Arab
propagandists experience no
difficulty in finding an at-
tentive ear to their claims of
"Jewish-Zionist racism."
Thus the Arab-Communist
success at the UN should
not be regarded as the out-
come of oil pressure and
petro-dollar influence.
A new anti-Semitic tag
is being attached to the
Jewish people, namely,
that through their return
to their homeland after
1,900 years of exile and the
re-establishment of their

state, they are infringing
on the vital interests of
other national movements.
Zionism, according to
Arab claims, is an expan-
sionist movement; a move-
ment seeking to conquer
more and more territory.
What was defined in old-
type anti-Semitism as the
insatiable Jewish greed for
gain has now been trans-
formed into the aspiration
for territorial expansion.

The Arab propagandists
distort the fact that the
Zionists agreed to the Parti-
tion Plan of 1947, which
Mended to the benefit of the
Arabs and was basically
against Jewish interests,
just as they vehemently
suppress the reason why
Israel demands secure bor-
ders in face of the declared
Arab intentions to destroy
Israel.
As for the new type public
that absorbs anti-Semitism,
it shoud be pointed out that
the anti-Semitic Arab prop-
aganda is particularly active
in the countries of Asia and
Africa where the Bible is
almost unknown — and
where the old-type anti-
Semitism had little if any
hold. Now since the Arabs
have become the most active
disseminators of the
"Protocols of the Elders of
Zion," a vile fabrication by
the Czarist Regime against
the Jewish people things

have changed.
A link has been created
between Arab anti-Semi-
tism and the heritage of
Russian anti-Semitism.
The present Arab-Com-
munist alliance with Rus-
sia is anchored on the So-
viet interests in the Arab
Middle East and, espe-
cially in the Persian Gulf
as well as in Moscow's at-
titude to the Jews of Rus-
sia who are held in an iron
vice.
To what extent Comm
ism is saturated with a
Semitism may be learne
from the stubborn anti-
Semitic attitude of Presi-
dent Tito, despite his oppos-
ition to Moscow. The Com-
munists in the world
strengthen the modern
nuances of Arab anti-Semi-
tism, which nowadays finds
its chief expression in the
efforts to hurt the state of
Israel.

NEW YORK — Sixty-
seven faculty members of
the Hebrew Union College-
Jewish Institute of Religion
in New York, Cincinnati,
and Los Angeles, have ex-
pressed their "revulsion" at
the UN anti-Zionist resolu-
tion and declared that Israel
cannot be asked to purchase
peace at the price of sui-
cide."
Professors of Reform Ju-
daism's institution of higher
learning issued the state-
ment saying:
"Zionisni, in its broadest
sense, is the affirmation
that the state of Israel has a
right to exist and prosper. It
asserts that Israel's popula-
tion deseri7es the support of
every fair-minded person
against those who would
destroy it, thereby exposing
the Jewish people to the
prospect of a second holo-
caust within a single. gener-
ation.
"Zionism as we conceive it
looks forward to a peaceful
resolution of the complex
problems in the Middle East
and the realization of justice
for Jew and Arab alike. But
Israel cannot be asked to
purchase peace at the price
of suicide."
