cial holiday shipments from
JWB which are sent to mili-
tary installations through-
out the world.
JWB also provides reli-
gious materials for U.S.
servicemen on duty at em-
bassies overseas, for U.S.
foreign personnel, and for
Peace Corpsmen serving re-
mote areas.
Traditional prayers and
descriptions and liturgical
melodies of the High Holy
Days and Sukkot are avail-
able on three cassettes pro-
duced by JWB's Commis-
sion on Jewish Chaplaincy
for the fall holiday period.
The cassettes are often
played over VA hospital net-

Jewish patients can take
part in the holiday observ-
ances. Ambulatory patients
usually attend hospital serv-
ices.

At some military posts,
Jewish personnel are
granted leave so they can
travel home for the High
Holy Days. Other service-
men will be offered home
hospitality by Jewish resi-
dents of the local commu-
nities where they are sta-
tioned.
Cooperating in holiday
arrangements with the Jew-
ish chaplains and the JWB
Commission on Jewish

Chaplaincy are the JWB
Women's Organizations'
Services, local Armed
Forces and Veterans service

committees, Jewish commu-
nity centers affiliated with
JWB, synagogues, and other
local Jewish organizations.

Supplication of the Six Million

B PAUL ELDRIDGE

Do not grou., upon us, grass—.
Let the dust of our bones
A leprous lava
Blow on forever!

We were not stretehed and
washed and clothed
We were not placed each
in honored cell
To sleep in peace.

Do not grow upon us, grass—
Let the blood of our veins
A murky sea.
Run on. forever!
Do not grOw upon us, grass—
Let the stench of our ashes
A foul volcano
Belch on forever!

Do not grow upon Us, grass—
These are not graves
These are not tombs
These are not - holy grounds.
Do not grow upon us, grass—
These are pits of shame
These are holes of hate
These are abysses of evil.

Do not grow upon us, grass—
You are a gate without hinges
Stronger than steel
Sharper than barbed wire
No hook can pry you
No bomb can shatter you
And all beneath you
Are eternal prisoners.

Do not grow upon us, grass--
We were hurled by the
hundreds
Were were hurled by the
thousands
Feet against faces
Bodies pressing bodies
Grotesque and obscene.

Do not grow upon,us, grass—
Let them not forget us
Let them not .vash their
hands of us
Let them not dispense
with us'

Do not grow upon us, grass—
Let them not forget us
Let the dust of our bones
Blow on
Let the stench of our ashes
Belch on
Let their eyes be swollen
with us
Let their feet be wet
- with U.S
Let their lungs be shrunken
with us
Forever and forever!
Do not grow upon us, grass!

Do not grow upon us, grass—
Let not their eyes delight
in your color
Let not their lungs rejoice
in your fragrance
Let not their feet be
soothed with your softness!

Do not grow upon us, grass—
We were not the weary
who died
We were not the sick
We were not the old
We were not taken from
soft beds
We were not taken from
houses of mourning

Parley Cancelled
Due to Israel Ban

LONDON (JTA) — An
international conference on
textiles that was due to be
held in Bombay in Novem-
ber has been cancelled be-
cause the Indian govern-
ment has refused to admit
Israeli delegates.
The announcement was
made here by British Con-
servative Member of Parlia-
ment Tom Normanton, vice
president of the Interna-
tional Federation of Cotton
and Allied Textile Indus-
tries (IFCATI).
Normanton told a press
conference, "We had no
choice but to cancel the con-
ference. We cannot allow
this kind of blackmail
threat to be put on us." He
added that the IFCATI
"categorically refused to
hold the conference under
this exclusion threat."
The host association, the
Indian Cotton Mills Federa-
tion, tried to persuade its
government to change its
decision but without suc-
cess. Normanton said that
IFCATI was now planning a
working meeting in Zurich
Nov. 24-26.

TheTaste of
Tradition

Yes, the call comes early this year—and
warm weather calls for a cool and refreshing
start to your yomtov dinner. Like rich red
borscht. Like savory gefilte fish. And crispy
matzos. But only from Manischewitz.
Because you can't go deeper into tradition,
higher in quality, or finer in taste—when you
delight your family and guests with these
and other delectables from Manischewitz.
Have a good New Year.
