Golda's Life Story
Told in 'My Life'
INVITATIONS
by HATTIE
SCHWARTZ
"My Life," (G. P. Putnam
Sons), Golda Meir's long-
awaited autobiography,
tells in her own words how
it happens that this amaz-
ing woman, born in Russia
and brought up in Milwau-
kee, became the Prime Min-
ister of Israel and one of the
political giants of our times.
She describes her career
as Israel's Labor Minister,
Foreign Minister and finally
Prime Minister, against the
background of her conflict-
ing role as a wife and
mother.
Her personal story inevit-
ably reflects the story of
Israel itself, and Mrs. Meir
' writes about not only the fa-
mous Israelis she worked
with such as Ben-Gurion,
Moshe Davan and Levi Esh-
kol, but also the world lead-
ers she encountered such as
Kennedy, Nixon, Johnson,
Kissinger, de Gaulle and
Harold Wilson.

Quote of Wisdom
1
"I think it is no exaggera-
tion to say that there is not
a square kilometer of land
anywhere in the world on
which there is concentrated
so much energy, so much
idealism, so much intellig-
ence, so much endeavor, as
on the square kilometer on
which work, dream and suf-
fer our halutzim . . . (They)
are one of our miracles. Per-
haps it is the stored-up
idealism of ages, come down
to them from their grand-
fathers, and finding today
an outlet and an application
in Palestine."
