Communal Leader David Berris Mike Brandt,
David I. Berris, a long-
time attorney and commu-
nity leader, died April 30 at
age 68.
Born in Hudson, Mich.,
Mr. Berris lived in Detroit
65 years. He was a past
president of Young Israel
congregations of Detroit, •
Oak-Woods and Greenfield,
and a board member and
vice president of Yeshivath
Beth Yehuda.
He was a founder and
past president of Akiva He-
brew Day School, past pres-
ident of the Mizrachi Or-
lization of Detroit and a
,ard member of the Jewish
National Fund, Hebrew Be-
nevolent Society, and the
local committee of Bar-Ilan
University. He resided at
25037 W. Rue Versailles,
Oak Park.
In the last year, Mr. Ber-
ris divided his residence be-
tween a home in Detroit and
a home in Jerusalem as a
mark of devotion to Zionism
and Israel.
He is survived by his wife,
Mae; a son, Shimon of Phil-
adelphia; two daughters,
Mrs. David (Fayga) Green-

baum and Mrs. Herbert
(Judith) Speiser; a brother,
Morris H.; two sisters, Mrs.
Abe (Frances) Matzer and
Mrs. Irving (Sylvia) Rozman
of Rego Park, N.Y.; and nine
grandchildren.

Local Dentist, 46
Dr. Samuel B. Bleier, a
dentist in the Detroit area
for 20 years, died April 27 at
age 46.
Born in Detroit, Dr.
Bleier was on the board of
directors of the Michigan
Kidney Foundation, a mem-
ber of the Detroit Chapter
of Alpha an
Dental
Fraternity and
d a member of
the Dutcher Flying Associa-
tion. He was graduated
from the University of De-
troit's dental school in 1953,
and served in the U.S. Air
Force Dental Corps from
1955-57.
Survived by his wife,
Madeline; a son, Jeffrey;
two daughters, Barbara and
Robin; and his mother, Mrs.
Gesha Bleier.

Israeli-Singer
PARIS (JTA) — Israeli
singer Mike Brandt, who
has been at the top of the
French hit parade for the
last five years, committed
suicide April 25, by jumping
from a sixth-floor balcony.
He had tried to commit
suicide in a similar manner
last November and had
spent several months in a
Geneva clinic where he was
treated for a nervous break-
down.
The 29-year-old singer,
whose family lives in Haifa,
was known throughout
Western Europe as one of
the most popular singers
and had sold more than five
million records in France
alone.

Robert Aron, 76,
Jewish Historian
PARIS, (JTA) — French
Jewish author and histo-
rian, Robert Aron, died
April 19 at age 76. The his-
torian was to have been re-
ceived into the prestigious
French Academy on April
24. He had already received
his ceremonial sword.
Aron was known for his
historical works concerning
France under the German
occupation and during the
liberation by the Allies. He
was a winner of the Femina-
Vacaresco Prize in 1961, and
had been_honored with two
decorations: the French Le-
gion of Honor and the Croix
de Guerre.
Mr. Aron had recently
told friends that he was
planning to write his mem-
oirs. Paris newspapers
mourned the disappearance
of the future member of the
Academy and characterized
him as one of the most re-
markable writers whose life
and works will remain an
example and his memory
not be forgotten.
