ganizations into the Labor
Zionist Alliance.
Hearshen was a member
of the Israel Histadrut
Campaign Committee and is
an active supporter of Israel
Bonds, Jewish National
Fund and the Allied Jewish
Campaign.
As a leader of the Labor
Zionist movement, since
the days of Young Poalei
Zion, Hearshen worked
with many of the "old-tim-
ers," including David
Ben-Gurion, Zalman Sha-
zar - and Golda Meir. In
1931, when Ben-Gurion
became ill while visiting
Detroit to rally support for
the Zionist cause, Hear-
shen sat up the whole
night with him to nurse
the leader back to health.

Wesley Has New
Low-Fat_Ice Cream

Wesley's Quaker Maid Ice
Cream Co. has a new line of
kosher 99 percent fat-free
ice creams in three flavors,
vanilla, chocolate and
strawberry.
The new line is called
Slender Maid. It contains
less than one percent fat, is
derived primarily from skim
milk, and most of the sugars
normally used in prepara-
tion of ice cream are re-
placed by fructose syrups.
Slender Maid contains 99
calories per five-ounce serv-
ing. The new ice,tream line,
as well as all Wesley's ice
cream products are pro-
duced under constant Or-
thodox rabbinical supervi-
sion.

Tanzman Receives Government Award

David S. Tanzman, in
charge of the Detroit office
of the Federal Mediation
and Coriciliation Service,
has been awarded the
FMCS Distinguished Serv-
ice Award.

lin Woods were tendered a
dinner and reception at
Temple Beth El last month
in honor of their recent
marriage. The bride, the
former Lynne Elaine
Schechter, is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Schechter of Southfield. She
is a graduate of Wayne
State University's medical
school. Her husband, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woods
of Knoxville, Tenn., was
graduated from the Univer-
sity of Tennessee Medical
School. The newlyweds are
lividg in San Rafael, Calif.

Rosenfeld, of Kipling Ave.,
Oak Park, have returned
from_ a recent vacation in

Tanzman has been an ef-
fective labor-management
preacemaker as a federal
mediator stationed in De-
troit since 1948. He acts as
the Mediation Service liai-
son to the automobile indus-
try and to the United Auto-
mobile Workers Union in
their relationships.
He was a founder and a
present member of the
board of directors of the
Society of Professionals in
Dispute Resolution, has
been past president of the
Akiva Hebrew Day SchooF
and is a corporate member
of the Detroit Industrial
Mission.

Akiva Will Have
Summer Day Camp

Registration is being
taken for Akiva Hebrew
Day School's summer camp-
ing program which this year
will have as its theme,
"Jerusalem -- Old and
New."
The program, held in the
air-conditioned school 'build-
ing, will include overnight
hikes, swimming, trips, car-
nivals, sports, wiener roasts
and arts and crafts.
