Navigation Nil at Suez Canal

GENEVA (ZINS) — Al-
though the Suez Canal is ac-
tually cleared for naviga-
tion, Cairo defers any
official opening of the wa-
terway strictly on political
grounds. No clearance has
been issued for the release
of a number of vessels that
were blocked in the canal
during the Six-Day War.
The Egyptians seem to
believe that by holding back

on the official reopening of
the canal they can increase
the pressure on Israel for
further troop withdrawals
from the Sinai. Evidence
that the canal is now navig-
able comes from verified
reports that a 24,000 ton
tanker has negotiated the
waterway and that a num-
ber of Egyptian men-of-war
sailed through the canal en
route to the Indian Ocean.

introduced and have built

across the Suez Canal.
The Egyptians are also
beefing up their naval
strength in the Gulf of
Suez. Israel has already
protested to the United
Nations Truce Supervision
Organization (UNTSO)
against Friday's passage
of a Soviet-built Egyptian
destroyer of the "Skoury"
class through the Suez
Canal from the Mediterra-
nean to the Red Sea.
The protest is based on
the fact that the destroyer
carries 130mm guns while
the disengagement accord
bars guns larger than
122mm from the canal zone.
The Egyptians have con-
centrated large numbers of
armored troop carriers
equipped with anti-aircraft
and anti-tank (Sager) mis-
siles in the limited forces
zone east of the canal. Tech-
nically, this is not a viola-
tion of the disengagement
agreement since the latter
limits the number of tanks
allowed in the zone but not
armored troop carriers.
Meanwhile, the man-
power division of general
headquarters in Tel Aviv

For over thirty-five years, families
have been relying on Planters Oil
for all their Kosher cooking.
On Passover and all Year through.
They like it because it's pure, light and
polyunsaturated. So the true taste
of the food comes through. Try
this traditional Passover recipe
and see what we mean. Cook it with
Kosher and Parve Planters Oil.
And Happy Passover.

PASSOVER CHOCOLATE
CHIP COOKIES

,

Makes about 5 dozen cookies
3 eggs

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup Planters Peanut Oil
3 tablespoons water
1 cup chopped semi-sweet chocolate
1 /2 cup chopped pecans
2 teaspoons grated orange peel
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups matzoh meal
Matzoh meal
Beat eggs and sugar together until thick and
lemon colored; beat in Planters Peanut Oil
and water until blended. Stir in chopped
chocolate, chopped pecans, orange peel and
salt. Stir in 2 cups matzoh meal until well
mixed. Let batter stand for 10 minutes (it
will thicken as it stands). Drop batter in 4
strips (each about 12-inches long by 11/2
inches wide) on baking sheets that have been
oiled and lightly dusted with matzoh meal.
Bake in moderate oven (375°F.) about 20
minutes, until a pale golden brown. Remove
from oven; immediately cut each strip into
about 15 (3/4 inch wide) diagonal slices.
Remove slices from baking sheets and
allow to cool.
