Kahane, 7 JDL'ers
Arrested for Sit-In

NEW YORK (JTA) — Seven
members of the Jewish Defense
League, including Rabbi Meir
Kahane, JDL founder, were
arrested Feb. 10 at Temple
Emanu-El here on charges of
criminal trespass. They were
given summonses and released
for appearance in New York
Criminal Court Feb. 21.
Russ Kellner, JDL operations
officer, said the seven JDL
members had been holding a
vigil in the virtually empty
sanctuary of the Reform syn-
agogue in protest against "the
silence of American Jewish
leadership on United States
pressures on Israel" in the ne-
gotiations for which Secretary
of State Henry A. Kissinger is
again visiting the Middle East.
The sit-in at the Reform syn-
agogue was one of a series of
protest actions staged by the
JDL since Kahane returned
from Israel. to protest alleged
U.S. pressure on Israel.

Mack (Herzl Press) relates
how the peddlers in Chicago
were molested, humiliated
by the police, hounded and
persecuted. Judge Mack's
courageous stand provided
relief for the peddlers and
led to an end to the brutali-
ties that were practiced
against the helpless Jews by
the police and an introduc-
tion of justice for the ped-
dler in courts of justice.

in the synagoguge activities
of Detroit.
Significant also was the
influence of Rabbi Judah L.

several synagogues into ac-

the city. But there were ob-

listed by Rockaway include:
