Defense Denies
Approval of U.S.
Military in Sinai
WASHINGTON (ZINS)
— The U.S. Defense Depart-
ment has issued a formal
denial that Defense Secre-
tary Schlesinger favored
establishment of American
military bases in Sinai. A
Pentagon spokesman said
Schlesinger does not
believe such a move would
have political or military
justification. -
The denial came as a re-
- sult of information pub-,
d in the Israeli press
the .U.S. Secretary of
Defense favored the estab-
lishment of an American
base at Sharm-el-Sheikh,
after the Sinai Peninsula
was demilitarized and the
Suez Canal reopened.

Israelis Hoard
TEL AVIV — Israel keeps
raising the price of calls
from pay telephones. So Is-
raelis hoard phone tokens to
profit from the next price
hike.
As a result, the Ministry
of CoMmunications_keeps
running out of tokens. The
ministry said its entire
stock — equivalent to five
for every person in the coun-
try — "has been sold out
and hoarded." A call costs
8.3 cents at present.

Purim is almost here, and
on Purim it is traditional to
eat hamantashen. This is an
easily prepared, cookie-like
dough recipe for haman-
tashen.
.2 sticks margarine
1 tbsp. oil
:1 cup sugar
4 large eggs
1/2 cup pineapple juice (or
syrup from canned fruit)
2 tsps. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
.5 and 2/3 cups flour
Mix margarine, oil and
sugar. Add rest of ingre-
dients and mix well. Div-
ii de dough into three balls.
Roll out. Cut into circles
and place tablespoon of
filling on each circle and
pinch -corners together to
make a three-cornered
shape. Bake at 350 degrees
for about 20 to 25 minutes.
Note: Filling may be
prune butter, apple butter
or any pie filling
There are only three basic
jokes, but since the mother-
.in-law joke is not a joke but
a very serious question,
there are only two. —
