OBITUARIES

OCC Provost Irving Levinson

Irving Levinson, provost of
the Highland Lakes campus
of Oakland Community Col-
lege, died Nov. 25 at age 54.
ir Born in Detroit, Mr. Levin-
son was a metallurgical
engineer. He joined OCC as
associate dean of technical
education in December 1964,
the third employe on the col-
lege's original staff. He had
been provost of the Highland
Lakes Campus in Union Lake
since July 1973.
He was involved in the
initial planning of - the col-
lege's career programs, with
the responsibility of luring
staff 'embers and seeking

Budgeting Systems Office
. and director of special serv-
ices at Orchard Ridge
Campus.

Before joining the com-
munity college, Mr. Levin-
son taught for 17 years at
the Lawrence Institute of
Technology. Following gradu-
ation from Michigan Tech-
nological University, he join-
ed Buick Motors in 1942.
He was the author of sev-
en engineering textbooks,
and also was known for his
culinary skills and original
recipes.
Mr. Levinson was a con-
sulting editor for Prentice-
Hall Inc., a major publishing
firm.
He also was active in Mich-
igan Partners of the Alliance,
a group formed to provide
assistance for developing na-
tions. Mr. Levinson was an
educational consultant for the
group in Belize (formerly
British Honduras) and the
Dominican Republic. He re-
sided at 7411 Pebble Pointe
Dr., West Bloomfield.
He leaves his wife, Mari-
lyn; and . children, Judith
Levinson, Mrs. Cynthia Noi-
rel, Michael Jantz, Timothy
Jantz, Mrs. Claudia Beegle
and Mrs. Deborah Berry;
