Ur. Rockway Urges Greater U.S. Jewries Role

Dr. Robert Rockaway, sen-
ior lecturer in American
Jewish history .at Tel Aviv
University, here on a brief
visit with his ' family, ex-
pressed concern over exist-
ing conditions in Israel, es-
pecially in the relationships
between Israelis, the Israeli
government and the Ameri-
can Jewish community. He
urged greater involvement
by American Jews in the
conduct of immigrant re-
settlement, in suport of edu-
cational projects and in the
distribution of philanthropic
dollars generaly.
Prof . Rockaway charged
that there is a bureaucracy

Dr. Rockaway maintained
that the continuation of fund-
raising efforts among Ameri-
can Jewry must go hand-in-
hand with •total accountabil-
ity on the part of the Israeli
government as to the effec-
tive disbursement of these
vast sums to the best interest
of the Israeli pectple. He em-

American Jewry is to be
maintained. "Let the Ameri-
can Jewish leadership ask for
and demand a greater say in
Israel's affairs where the
philanthropic dollar is in-
volved, and Israel will bene-
fit whie greater satisfaction
in achievement will rebound
for American Jewry," he de-
clared.
