Judge Rifkind Defends Sentence
of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg

In a letter to the New
York Times former U.S. Dis-
trict Court Judge Simon H.
Rifkind, a distinguished na-
tional Jewish leader who
plays an active role in the
American Jewish Committee,
governing board of the
Jewish Theological Seminary
and other movements, re-
jected the claims of defend-
ers of Julius and Ethel Ros-
enb
Ht. expressed the view that
their guilt was firmly estab-
iished and that the court ver-
dict was "untainted."
In his letter, Rifkind de-
clared they were not Ameri-
can heroes; they were spies
in the service of the Stalinist
tyranny.

myth-makers or deliberately
distorted:
