Jewish Labor Committee to Join
in Effort on Behalf of Latinos

The local Jewish Labor
Committee will help Detroit's
Spanish-speaking community
in a voter registration drive,
it was announced by Selma
Goode, Michigan director of
the JLC.
Mrs. Goode said it will re-
quire the combined efforts of
the JLC, the Spanish-speak-
ing community and trade
unions to help Latinos win
their .fair share of jobs and
recognition. She and Anthony

Local 163, suggested a com-
munity campaign to bring
the franchise to Latino citi-
zens.
The Jewish Labor Commit-
tee heard the problems of
Spanish-speaking people at a
recent luncheon meeting in
the Butzel Building. John
Lopez at the UAW fair prac-
tices department and Roy
Gonzalez, deputy director of
the model Neighborhood
Agency, were speakers.
They said that Spanish-
speaking people, who are the
second largest minority in
the U.S., are underrepre-
sented in all job areas.

Detroit is within one hour's
flying time or one day's drive
of 60 per cent of the coun-
try's population.
