qualities of the woman of
eminence who had earned
recognition as a volunteer
and as a leader in many
movements before she had
risen to national leadership.
They are qualities recalled
on her 65th birthday which
she will observe on Monday.
She is on the national board
of the United Jewish Appeal
women's division, on the
boards of the Jewish Welfare
Federation, Jewish Welfare
Federation women's division,
United Cerebral Palsy Foun-
dation, United Foundation,
Michigan Foundation for the
Arts, Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra, Detroit Grand Opera
Association; the advisory
boards of Women for the
Arts and League for the
Handicaped; and the board
of trustees of the – Merrill
Palmer Institute.
Born in New York City,
Mrs. Jones came from a
family active in Jewish af-
fairs. Her father was vice
president of Shaare Zedek
Synagogue in New York City
and was one of the founders
of the Hebrew Free Loan
Association.
Interested in the dance,
she studied under several re-
nowned artists, including
Martha Graham. She per-
formed with the Chicago
Opera Company, and follow-
ing her graduation from col-
lege taught in the dance de-
partment at New York Uni-
versity.

MRS. HARRY L. JONES
In 1930, she married Harry
L. Jones, and moved to
Detroit in 1940. Here she has
served on the boards of the
Jewish Center, Jewish Fam-
ily and Children's Service,
Sinai Hospital Women's
Guild, National Council of
Jewish Women, United Corn-
i-nunity Services, Women for
the United Foundation and
Girl Scouts of Metropolitan
Detroit.
Mrs. Jones has won an
alumni medal from New
York University in 1929 fol-
lowing her graduation (she
earned an MA degree in hu-
manities from Wayne State
University in 1961). She also
is the recipient of the Wom-
en's Advertising Club of De-
troit's civic award, the Butzel
Award, Alpha Epsilon Phi's
national alumna of the year
award (1969) and was made
an honorary member of the
women's division of the Jew-
ish Welfare Federation.
She held posts in Metropol-
itan Detroit Chapter of Ha-
dassah, Federation women's
division, women's committee
of the Council of Jewish

Speaking for the students
from the Detroit and Wind-
sor area who are studying at
Yeshiva University, Arye
Lev Stollman, Windsor, and
Bruce S. Sherizen, Oak Park,
this week sent messages of
greeting to the committee
that is organizing the dinner
of Detroit Friends of Yeshiva
University, to be given, at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek, June 6,
in honor of Norman Allan.
Other area students attend-
ing the university include
Daniel Arm, Robert Allen
C o h e n, Libby Finkelstein,
Sharon Freedman and Ruth
Kalib.
Graduate students are Jud-
ith Unger, James McGinnis
and Malcolm S. Levine. Mc-
Ginnis is studying Educa-
tional Phychology and Le-
vine is continuing with grad-
uate Jewish studies.

capacity attendance is ex-
pected at the June 6 dinner.

featured speaker.

the Yeshiva University Dis-
tinguished Service Award to
